Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Terrick

We have been trading since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Common call-outs are for thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct and an insurer asking for TR19 evidence, on access panels, attenuators and horizontal duct runs.

Work in a small place like Terrick starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with pictures, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

What ductwork cleaning looks like in Terrick

There are about 9 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens across Terrick and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half), according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Wherever those kitchens cook under a canopy, the horizontal runs and risers need cleaning as well as the hood. Terrick is covered by Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Environmental health officers from Buckinghamshire council inspect food businesses in Terrick. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Bursars and site managers at schools such as John Colet School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Stoke Mandeville Hospital about 2.5 miles north, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Terrick is about 4 miles south of Aylesbury, in Buckinghamshire. Whatever kind of site you run in Terrick, we can take on ductwork cleaning. Visits can be booked for evenings, overnight or weekends so trading is not interrupted. Our area takes in 263 places across Buckinghamshire, large and small. There’s also a page for Oxford, about 19 miles away.

What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning

The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • The condition of the system
  • The number of sites or systems
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • The size of the system

Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before work begins.

What to send for a quote

What to send for a quote:

  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Call or email with a few details and you will typically have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Questions from Terrick

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Terrick?

Fire safety enforcement in Terrick is handled by Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Do you cover smaller places like Terrick?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Terrick is covered. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

What’s involved in cleaning extract ducts?

We open each access panel and clean the section it reaches. Grease is scraped out first, then degreased, with readings taken before and after.

What accreditations do you have?

Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. We always survey first, from your pictures and details, or with a visit where needed. Then you get a fixed quote.

What does ductwork cleaning cost?

We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. We fix the price before we start.

How long does ductwork cleaning take?

Short runs are quick, while long ducts and tall risers can need more than one visit. We plan the work around your kitchen.

When it’s something else

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Faulty fire dampers
  • A duct that’s too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)
  • Leaking duct joints that need repair

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Access panels
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Attenuators
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Vertical risers
  • Bends and junctions

How the visit works

Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. On site, the work takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. Somewhere like Terrick, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
  2. We take grease readings along the route.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
  4. Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
  5. We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

Getting a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Advice

What happens if it’s left?

Insurers know the risk of a greasy duct. Many require cleaning to TR19, and they can refuse or reduce a claim without proof. A certificate that covers the ductwork is what they want to see. If the system at a site near Terrick fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

What you get with us

  • A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London
  • Fixed quotes, typically within one working day
  • In business since 2009
  • Full insurance on every job

Different parts, different methods

Access panels

Access panels are the doors that let us into the duct. Without them, parts of the duct cannot be reached, and TR19 expects them to be recorded.

Bends and transitions

A bend can hold far more grease than a straight run of the same length. It’s scraped out and degreased, and test it before and after.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:

  • Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
  • File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
  • Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up
  • Tell us if grease leaks from the ductwork

The report names every part of the duct that couldn’t be reached and why. We can fit access panels so those sections are cleaned next time.

Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. Moving air carries vapour through rather than letting it settle, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

What we are called out for in Terrick

Slow air leaves the most grease behind. Long horizontal runs, bends, changes in size and the foot of a riser all collect more, and those are the points we pay most attention to.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
  • Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
  • Sections of duct with no access panels
  • Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Peter and St Paul, or anywhere in Terrick, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.
