Need ductwork cleaning in Chalkshire?

Ductwork cleaning in Chalkshire, done properly

No two duct runs are the same, in Chalkshire or anywhere else. Some run a short distance to an outside wall, others climb several floors to the roof. The survey traces the route and finds every access point before we quote. The work covers access panels, multi-storey ducts and bends and junctions, and the jobs we see most are grease leaking from duct joints and duct runs with no cleaning record.

In a small place like Chalkshire, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Chalkshire: your questions answered

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Chalkshire?

Kitchens in Chalkshire are inspected by Buckinghamshire council’s environmental health officers. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Do you work in villages like Chalkshire?

Yes, Chalkshire is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

How long will the duct clean take?

Allow a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. We’ll confirm the time when we quote.

What about areas you cannot get to?

Anything we can’t reach goes on the report, with photos where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.

Do we have to stop cooking while the ducts are cleaned?

Only while we’re working, and we work around you. Most kitchens book overnight or weekend cleans, so no service is lost.

Can you fit access panels in our ductwork?

Yes, extra panels can be fitted. It means more of the duct can be cleaned next time, and the report will show where they’re needed.

How often does extract ductwork need cleaning?

BESA guidance sets minimum intervals by daily cooking hours: every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Measured grease sets the real interval.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. For many sites, photos and a few details are enough, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

Looking after it afterwards

Here’s the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Run the extract fan throughout service
  • Book the next clean before the recommended date
  • Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up
  • Ask us about extra access panels where sections can’t be reached

Grease readings are taken again at the same set points, so the report shows the before and after figures. Photos of each section go alongside them.

Watch for warning signs between cleans: grease leaking from duct joints, smells, or a fan that sounds rough. Testing will show whether any section has reached 500 microns.

How the visit works

Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. The timing of a visit to Chalkshire is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. First the duct route is traced and every access point noted.
  2. We measure grease thickness at set points before cleaning.
  3. Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
  4. The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
  5. Readings and photos are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

How the job changes from site to site

Attenuators and discharge

The last section of duct before the discharge is often the coolest, so it can collect more grease than expected. We include it in the clean and the readings.

Vertical risers

A riser takes the duct up through one or more floors. Grease collects on the walls and at the foot of the riser, so the base is one of our test points.

What staff can safely do

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.

Why it’s worth doing now in Chalkshire

A dirty duct is something insurers ask about. Many require cleaning to TR19, and they can refuse or reduce a claim without proof. A certificate that covers the ductwork is what they want to see. Rural sites cannot always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

You will not find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, and we will explain what it covers.

What affects the quote in Chalkshire

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The times the site is available
  • What state the system is in
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

Asking for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:

  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • A few general shots of the system

What ductwork cleaning looks like in Chalkshire

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 9 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Chalkshire. The duct above a busy canopy coats itself in grease long before anyone sees it. Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Chalkshire. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. It’s Buckinghamshire council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Chalkshire. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

School kitchens, at schools like John Colet School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Stoke Mandeville Hospital (about 2.7 miles north), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Peter and St Paul or elsewhere in Chalkshire, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.
