Ductwork cleaning in Priddy's Hard, done properly

We’ve been trading since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. The work covers access panels, multi-storey ducts and vertical risers, and people most often call us about gaps where access panels were never fitted and a duct nobody has opened in years.

Somewhere as small as Priddy's Hard, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

We have been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

Kitchen extracts in Priddy's Hard

Priddy's Hard is within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. There are about 157 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 59 sandwich bars and takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central Priddy's Hard, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Where they cook under a canopy, grease does not stop at the filters: it settles along the duct and up the riser. Priddy's Hard is covered by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Priddy's Hard is Gosport War Memorial Hospital, about 1.4 miles south-west. Term dates shape school work: for a school like St Vincent College, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Mary or anywhere around Priddy's Hard, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

Priddy's Hard is about 1 mile east of Gosport, in Hampshire. From the centre of Priddy's Hard to the outskirts, we cover ductwork cleaning for every kind of premises, from a single unit to a large public building. Across Hampshire, we cover 683 places, and Priddy's Hard is one of them.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Priddy's Hard

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

Leave it or put it right?

TR19® isn’t law, but the duty to manage fire risk is. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and grease in the duct is part of that. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Priddy's Hard

Does being near the coast affect ductwork cleaning in Priddy's Hard?

It can, as Priddy's Hard is within about 1 mile of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on metal. A fan housing that is rusting near the coast can fail sooner, so it’s worth catching early.

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Priddy's Hard?

That’s Gosport council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Priddy's Hard. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

What should I send you?

Just the basics: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.

What if part of the duct cannot be reached?

Any section we cannot reach is recorded on the report, in line with TR19. We can fit new access panels so they’re cleaned next time.

What’s involved in cleaning extract ducts?

Through access panels along the duct. Thick deposits are removed by hand before degreasing, such as degreasers, hot water or steam.

Are you insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

What’s TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping, and it takes a risk-based approach.

What we do, step by step

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. Somewhere like Priddy's Hard, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. We trace the duct and find every way in.
  2. We take grease readings along the route.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
  4. Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
  5. We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.

How to prepare

  • Clear the space around the work
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend

Advice

What ductwork cleaning can’t fix

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Sections that cannot be reached safely without new access (those are recorded, and panels can be fitted)
  • A damper stuck open in the duct
  • A worn-out fan that needs replacing

If you’re not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will give you a straight answer.

What the work covers

  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Access panels
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Vertical risers
  • Bends and junctions
  • Attenuators

Different parts, different methods

Attenuators and discharge

Some systems have attenuators to reduce noise, and their linings can soak up grease. We clean what can be reached and note anything that can’t.

Bends and transitions

Bends, elbows and changes of size are where grease collects most. The air slows and drops its load, so we clean these points carefully.

What staff can safely do

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep access panels clear of stored items
  • Never cook with a filter missing
  • Check readings when the menu changes
  • Ask us about extra access panels where sections can’t be reached

File the paperwork in the maintenance log. It’s the evidence an insurer or inspector may ask for, and the photos make the duct’s condition easy to see.

Watch for warning signs between cleans: drips from the ductwork, stale smells or a noisy fan. A grease thickness test can confirm whether a spot clean is needed.
