Ductwork cleaning in Osney, Oxfordshire
Our technicians work in Osney on cleaning of kitchen extract ductwork, horizontal runs and vertical risers through access panels. Out-of-hours visits, a fixed quote and a written report with photos as standard.
- A duct nobody has opened in years
- Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
- Thick crusts of old grease along the duct
About our ductwork cleaning in Osney
Between the canopy and the fan runs the ductwork, hidden above ceilings and inside walls. Grease settles along every metre of it, and that is where a kitchen fire can travel. We clean it from the inside, through access panels, to BESA TR19® Grease. We are often asked to deal with grease seeping out of the duct seams and gaps where access panels were never fitted, on vertical risers, horizontal duct runs and multi-storey ducts.
For a smaller kitchen near Osney, a TR19® clean is the same job as anywhere: canopy, filters, plenum, duct, fan and discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.
We have been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

What staff can safely do
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and send you a fixed quote.
What a clean will not put right
Ductwork cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It won’t put right:
- Parts of the duct with no way in
- A damper stuck open in the duct
- An extract fan that has stopped working
If you’re not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
What the work covers
- Bends and junctions
- Access panels
- Multi-storey ducts
- Vertical risers
- Attenuators
- Horizontal duct runs
How it works
We are used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. We plan the journey to Osney and bring what the job is likely to need.
- We trace the duct and find every way in.
- Grease thickness is measured at set points.
- Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
- Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
- Panels are closed, readings and photos repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.
Getting ready for the visit
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
- Have your last certificate or report to hand

Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Osney
Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Osney?
Kitchens in Osney are inspected by Oxford City council’s environmental health officers. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.
Do you cover smaller places like Osney?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Osney included. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
Do I get a certificate for ductwork cleaning?
When the duct is cleaned as part of a full TR19 clean, you get a TR19 certificate and a photo report. The report shows readings, photos and any sections we couldn’t reach.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes, of course. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we’ll suggest a schedule and quote for it.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
How long does ductwork cleaning take?
It depends on the length of the duct, the number of access panels and how much grease there is. As a guide, it takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access.
How do you protect the area?
We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before work begins, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
Are you accredited?
We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.
What the work involves, part by part
Access panels
After cleaning, every panel is closed and sealed, so grease and air stay inside the duct. We’ll tell you if any panel needs replacing.
Bends and transitions
Grease tends to pile up at elbows. We clean it back by hand and with degreaser, and test it before and after.
What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning
There’s no set price list, because no two systems are the same. What we look at:
- The condition we find in the survey
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
- Any permits to work or inductions
- The size of the system
We do not list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we will talk you through it.
Helping us quote
To help us quote quickly, please include:
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- Problems your staff have spotted
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
Need a price for ductwork cleaning? Please phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos with a few details about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and send you a fixed quote before you commit to anything.
What we’re called out for in Osney
A vertical riser can run up several floors. Grease collects on the riser walls and gathers at the bottom, where it can pool. Access along its height is needed to clean it properly.
What we’re most often called out for:
- Duct runs that cannot be reached
- Hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs
- Heavy grease at the base of a riser
- High readings at a recent grease test
School kitchens, at schools like West Oxford Community Primary School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
Before you book anyone
- Proof of accreditation you can verify
- What hours they’ll be on site
- What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
Osney kitchens: local notes
There are about 299 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 34 takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central Osney, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Behind every canopy among them is a run of ductwork that collects grease out of sight. Food hygiene inspections in Osney are the job of Oxford City council’s environmental health team. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Osney. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Radcliffe Infirmary about 0.8 miles north-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Commuter trade near Oxford station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands.

Leave it or put it right?
Under BESA guidance, the mean grease level should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans. Anywhere that reaches 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning. Leaving the duct makes those limits harder to keep to. Light use slows the build-up but does not stop it.
Every site is different, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.
