How we handle ductwork cleaning in Ockford Ridge

Every duct has its own route. A few metres to an outside wall, or a riser up through the building to a roof fan. We map the route during the survey, so we know where to get in and how long it will take. We’re often asked to deal with years of grease along the duct floor and grease pooling at the foot of the riser, on access panels, horizontal duct runs and vertical risers.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

A written report with photos follows each visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. A few pictures of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Ockford Ridge.

  1. The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
  2. We take grease readings along the route.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
  4. Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
  5. Panels are closed, readings and photos repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.

Advice

Between visits

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook
  • Keep access panels clear of stored items
  • Report any grease dripping from duct joints
  • Book the next clean before the recommended date

A full system clean includes a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. It records the date, the location and the technician.

Grease that never reaches the duct never needs cleaning out of it. Keep the filters clean, well fitted and in place whenever you cook.

What we are called out for in Ockford Ridge

Damaged or poorly fitted filters let more grease into the duct. The duct then takes grease that the filters should have stopped, and build-up speeds up.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
  • Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
  • A duct clean needed for an insurer
  • Duct runs that cannot be reached

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St John the Evangelist's Church or elsewhere in Ockford Ridge, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Before you book anyone

  • Whether a survey comes first
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • How areas they can’t reach will be recorded

  • Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What the work covers

  • Access panels
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Vertical risers
  • Attenuators
  • Bends and junctions
  • Horizontal duct runs

Common questions in Ockford Ridge

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Ockford Ridge in the summer holidays?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Food Standards Agency records list about 4 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Ockford Ridge. Just call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.

Do you work overnight in Ockford Ridge?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. That way a site in Ockford Ridge doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

What should I send you?

Some photos and a quick description of the system, with the address and opening hours. We will ask for anything else we need.

How much does ductwork cleaning cost?

Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. To get one, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We are fully insured, and the details are available on request.

Which sectors do you work in?

Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, as well as food production and leisure sites.

What about areas you cannot get to?

We record them on the report, with pictures where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning

The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:

  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The times the site is available
  • The condition of the system

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are not sure what’s needed, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

What to send for a quote

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings

Need a price for ductwork cleaning? Please phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with a few details about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and send you a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

What the work involves, part by part

Multi-storey and shared buildings

A duct that climbs several floors may be cleaned over more than one visit. We agree a sequence that suits the building, out of hours where possible.

Vertical risers

A riser takes the duct up through one or more floors. Grease collects on the walls and at the foot of the riser, which is one of the points we test.

What ductwork cleaning looks like in Ockford Ridge

The Food Standards Agency lists about 4 bars, pubs and nightclubs as registered food businesses within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Ockford Ridge. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Environmental health officers from Waverley council inspect food businesses in Ockford Ridge. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service covers Ockford Ridge. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Milford Hospital (about 0.8 miles north-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Historic houses near Ockford Ridge, such as Loseley Park about 4.1 miles north, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.
