- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
What affects the quote in New Town
Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- How easy every part is to reach
- Any permits to work or inductions
- The size of the system
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.
Helping us quote
Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Send what you can of the following:
- Any previous report or certificate
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
Ductwork cleaning in New Town, done properly
Not sure when the ductwork was last cleaned? Tell us about the system when you ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and a fixed price will follow, usually within one working day. If you are dealing with high readings at a recent grease test and grease leaking from duct joints, we can help.
In a village or hamlet like New Town, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.

New Town kitchens: local notes
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service covers New Town. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. Environmental health officers from West Berkshire council inspect food businesses in New Town. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.
Church and community hall kitchens, near St Stephen's Church or anywhere around New Town, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Battle Hospital about 5.7 miles east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.
New Town is about 7 miles west of Reading, in Oxfordshire. Wherever you are in the RG8 postcode area, we can take on ductwork cleaning. Across Oxfordshire, we cover 443 places, and New Town is one of them. We also work in Reading, about 7 miles from New Town.

What we do, step by step
The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. The middle part takes longest, which takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in New Town before we set off.
- First we diagnose: the route, the access and the grease levels.
- A fixed quote follows, based on what we found.
- Each section is cleaned in turn through its access panel.
- Bends, risers and the base of each riser get extra attention.
- The duct is signed off with readings, pictures and a next clean date.
How to prepare
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
- Let us know about parking and loading
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet

Advice
FAQs for New Town
Can a school canteen extract in New Town be done out of term time?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. There are about 2 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of New Town. You can ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the dates the site is empty.
Do you cover smaller places like New Town?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
How long will the duct clean take?
It depends on the length of the duct, the number of access panels and how much grease there is. As a guide, it takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers.
What’s involved in cleaning extract ducts?
We survey the route, test the grease, then open the access panels. We clean the runs and risers section by section, then the readings are repeated.
Can you fit access panels in our ductwork?
Yes, as part of our fits and repairs work. We place them where they help most, and we will recommend where.
Do we have to stop cooking while the ducts are cleaned?
Out of hours, at a time that suits the kitchen. Long ducts can be split across visits, with the kitchen ready to cook each morning.
Can you quote from photos?
Often, yes. With good pictures, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Where we can’t see enough, we arrange a survey.
How do you know if the ductwork needs cleaning?
Drips, smells and weak extraction are clues, but measuring is the reliable way to know. A WFTT or DTT reading gives a clear answer.
Common problems we fix in New Town
Risers carry the extract up through the building. Grease clings to the walls and can run down to the base, where it can pool. Panels along the riser make proper cleaning possible.
It’s time to book a visit if you see:
- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
- A duct clean needed for an insurer
- Gaps where access panels were never fitted
- Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Basildon C.E. Primary School or anywhere near New Town, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
- If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
- If they look at the system before pricing
- How they set the interval to the next visit
What happens if it’s left?
A fire in a greasy duct is hard to reach and hard to stop. The duct can carry it to rooms, floors or roof spaces well away from the kitchen, which is why the duct matters as much as the canopy. Rural sites cannot always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.
The cost depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

Between visits
How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
- Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook
- Tell us if grease leaks from the ductwork
- File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
Keep the certificate and report with the fire risk assessment. An insurer, fire officer or EHO may ask to see it, and the photos make the duct’s condition easy to see.
Grease that never reaches the duct never needs cleaning out of it. Keep the filters clean, well fitted and in place whenever you cook.
Honest limits
Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:
- Ductwork that is corroded, split or holed (that needs a ductwork contractor)
- Sections that can’t be reached safely without new access (those are recorded, and panels can be fitted)
- A duct that’s too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)
Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
Parts of the system we cover

Managing agents and facilities teams in New Town
Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.
