Ductwork cleaning in New Ash Green, done properly
Once air leaves the canopy, it travels through ductwork that most people never see. Grease settles along every metre of it and a fire in the duct can spread through the building. Our ductwork cleaning reaches inside the runs and risers through access panels, to BESA TR19® Grease. If you’re dealing with years of grease along the duct floor and a grease test showing the duct is overdue, we can put it right, from horizontal duct runs, multi-storey ducts and attenuators onwards.
Work in a small place like New Ash Green starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Multi-site and managed buildings
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.
What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- How big the system is
- The times the site is available
- Where the site is and how we reach it
We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll talk you through it.
What to send for a quote
When you call or email, it’s useful to have:
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
If you need ductwork cleaning in New Ash Green, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email. Let us know the site type and the opening hours, plus photos or the previous report if they’re to hand. A fixed quote normally follows within one working day.
New Ash Green: your questions answered
Which fire service covers New Ash Green?
That is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Can a school canteen extract in New Ash Green be done out of term time?
Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Food Standards Agency records list about 6 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of New Ash Green. Tell us your holiday dates and we will book the visit for when the site is empty.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. We work across South East England and London, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Every site has its own report.
How far ahead should we book?
For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.
How can I tell if my extract ducts are dirty?
We measure it. Using a Wet Film Thickness Test or Deposit Thickness Test, we check the grease at set points. BESA guidance says the mean shouldn’t exceed 200 microns, and 500 or more anywhere needs immediate spot cleaning.
How long does it take to clean extract ducts?
Short runs are quick, while long ducts and tall risers can need more than one visit. We plan the work around your kitchen.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before any work starts, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
Are you insured?
Yes, fully. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor for clients who vet their contractors.
The process
Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. If you can send pictures, we can arrive in New Ash Green knowing what to expect.
- The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
- Grease thickness is measured at set points.
- Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
- Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
- Panels are closed, readings and photos repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.
Before we arrive
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Move anything stored near the system

For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We typically come back within one working day.
Related advice
Between visits
How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Ask us about extra access panels where sections can’t be reached
- Leave a way through to the access panels
- Ask for a grease thickness test if the kitchen gets busier
- Flag drips from the duct straight away
Keep the certificate and report with the fire risk assessment. It’s the evidence an insurer or inspector may ask for, and the photos make the duct’s condition easy to see.
Watch for warning signs between cleans: drips from the ductwork, stale smells or a noisy fan. Testing will show whether any section has reached 500 microns.
New Ash Green kitchens: local notes
The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 5 pubs and bars within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of New Ash Green. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. It’s Sevenoaks council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in New Ash Green. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. The fire and rescue service for New Ash Green is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Parish Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul or elsewhere in New Ash Green, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Cobham College is about 4.3 miles east), access may need planning.

What ductwork cleaning can’t fix
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- Parts of the duct with no way in
- A duct that is too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)
- Fire dampers that don’t close (they need testing and remedials)
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly.
Parts of the system we cover

- Bends and junctions
- Horizontal duct runs
- Access panels
- Vertical risers
- Attenuators
When to call us in New Ash Green
Slow air leaves the most grease behind. Long horizontal runs, bends, changes in size and the foot of a riser all collect more, and those are the points we pay most attention to.
Common reasons sites call us are:
- Sections of duct with no access panels
- A duct clean needed for an insurer
- Grease seeping out of the duct seams
- Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Darent Valley Hospital (about 5.2 miles north-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
