Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Martin
Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, with each certificate issued through the BESCA portal. The work covers vertical risers, bends and junctions and access panels, and common reasons people get in touch are hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs and proof of duct cleaning for the insurer.
For a kitchen in or near Martin, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

Aftercare tips
Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:
- Book the next clean before the recommended date
- Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook
- Ask us about extra access panels where sections cannot be reached
- Check readings when the menu changes
Keep the certificate and report with the fire risk assessment. An insurer, fire officer or EHO may ask to see it, and the pictures make the duct’s condition easy to see.
Keep the fan on throughout service. Moving air carries vapour through rather than letting it settle, so switching off early adds to the build-up.
Questions from Martin
Does the sea air around Martin make a difference to ductwork cleaning?
It can. Being within about 3 miles of the sea means more corrosion on metalwork in Martin than inland. Rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings are checked for corrosion as well as grease.
Will you come out to Martin?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Martin included. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, fully. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it for clients who vet their contractors.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
Anything we can’t reach goes on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.
Can you price the work without visiting?
Often, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Where we can’t see enough, we arrange a survey.
What paperwork do you give after a duct clean?
When the duct is cleaned as part of a full TR19 clean, you get a TR19 certificate and a photo report. The report shows readings, pictures and any sections we couldn’t reach.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
What ductwork cleaning looks like in Martin
Martin is within about 3 miles of the coast. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. Martin sits within the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. It’s Dover council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Martin. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
For schools such as Langdon Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Augustine or elsewhere in Martin, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. If you cook for passing trade around Martin Mill station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.
Martin is about 3 miles north-east of Dover, in Kent. From the centre of Martin to the outskirts, ductwork cleaning is available to all kinds of commercial premises, from small sites to large estates. Our Kent coverage runs to 922 places, Martin among them. We also work in Maidstone, about 36 miles from Martin.
Work in CT15 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. We cover sites on The Street, Waterworks Lane and Ringwould Road and nearby roads. We also cover the places around Martin: Martin Mill (1 mile south-east), East Langdon (1 mile south-west), West Langdon (1 mile west), Ringwould (1 mile north-east) and Sutton (1 mile north). We also work in nearby towns such as Canterbury (13 miles north-west), Margate (14 miles north), Dover (3 miles south-west), Folkestone (10 miles south-west), Ramsgate (12 miles north) and Broadstairs (13 miles north).
Around Martin
Typical jobs here are in premises near The Lantern Inn and Duke of York's Royal Military School. Martin has its own railway station: Martin Mill station. A little further out are Royal Victoria Hospital (3.6 miles south-west) and St Margaret's Museum (2.5 miles south-east). Not far away are Dover Western Heights.
How the job changes from site to site
Multi-storey and shared buildings
A fire in a duct in a shared building can affect far more than one kitchen, which makes keeping it clean all the more important. The paperwork suits landlords and managing agents.
Vertical risers
In taller buildings, a riser may pass through several floors and fire compartments, so fire dampers may be fitted where it crosses them. We test those as a separate job.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.
For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.
What affects the quote in Martin
The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- The size of the system
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- Any permits to work or inductions
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.
What we need to know
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
- The postcode and the type of business
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Your last certificate, test record or report
Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
What happens if it’s left?
BESA guidance says grease shouldn’t exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans. A reading of 500 microns or more at any point means a spot clean right away. Putting off the clean only pushes readings higher. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.
What you pay depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

What we do, step by step
The visit has three parts: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. For a village or hamlet like Martin, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.
- The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
- Grease thickness is measured at set points.
- Out of hours, the area is protected and the access panels opened.
- Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
- We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.
Before we arrive
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
How to get a quote
Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Then give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

When something else is needed
We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so here are the limits:
- Fire dampers that do not close (they need testing and remedials)
- Leaking duct joints that need repair
- A duct that is too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)
Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
