Ductwork cleaning for sites in Lurgashall

Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Lurgashall

Not every duct has enough access panels. TR19 calls for any section we couldn’t reach to be recorded, and we can fit new access panels so it’s cleaned next time. An honest report beats a guess. We’re often asked to deal with stale grease odours from the duct and duct runs that can’t be reached, on vertical risers, access panels and attenuators.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with pictures, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

When to call us in Lurgashall

Damaged or poorly fitted filters let more grease into the duct. More grease reaches the ductwork than it should, and build-up speeds up.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs
  • Heavy grease at the base of a riser
  • A duct clean needed for an insurer
  • Ductwork that has never been cleaned

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near The Parish Church of St Lawrence, or anywhere in Lurgashall, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

What to look for in a quote

  • How VAT is shown on the quote
  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos

FAQs for Lurgashall

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Lurgashall?

Lurgashall is in the area of West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Do you work overnight in Lurgashall?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. That way a site in Lurgashall does not have to lose a day’s trading. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we’ll book within them.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.

Can you quote from pictures?

Yes, for many jobs. Send a few wide pictures plus close-ups of panels, filters or grilles, and a fixed quote usually follows within one working day. Some sites still need a visit, and we’ll say so.

Are you accredited?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

Will I get a report after the ducts are cleaned?

A photo report, with readings and before and after pictures, plus a TR19 certificate for a full system clean. The report says when the next clean is due.

What happens if there aren’t enough access panels?

Without a way in, a section cannot be cleaned properly. Those parts are listed, and we can install panels so they’re reached next time.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, depending on what the system needs.

How it works

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Lurgashall before we set off.

  1. We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
  3. We open the panels and scrape out the heaviest grease.
  4. Horizontal runs and risers are then degreased by the method that suits the deposit.
  5. Readings and photos are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

Get a fixed quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Aftercare tips

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Keep to the interval on the report
  • Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Tell us if grease leaks from the ductwork
  • Keep the fan on while anything is cooking

Every panel we open is refitted when we finish, and the area around them is cleaned down. Grease and dirty water are contained and removed.

Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:

  • Ductwork that was poorly designed
  • Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls
  • Fire dampers that don’t close (they need testing and remedials)

If you’re not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What the work covers

  • Access panels
  • Vertical risers
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Attenuators
  • Bends and junctions
  • Horizontal duct runs

What the work involves, part by part

Vertical risers

In taller buildings, a riser may pass through several floors and fire compartments, where fire dampers may be fitted. Damper testing is a separate service.

Horizontal duct runs

Grease settles on the floor of a flat duct run. We scrape out the heavy layer first, then the walls and roof are cleaned too.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Every visit ends with a dated report and pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across West Sussex. Work can be phased by floor, building or site around the people who use them.

What happens if it’s left?

Grease narrows the duct and slows the air. The fan works harder, the kitchen gets hotter and smoke lingers at the canopy, and grease may start to leak from joints. In a place like Lurgashall, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.
