Ductwork cleaning in Little Maplestead
Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. The work covers horizontal duct runs, multi-storey ducts and access panels, and the jobs we see most are thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct and a rancid smell from the extract duct.
Work in a small place like Little Maplestead starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
The report is your system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, ready for your insurer.

What ductwork cleaning looks like in Little Maplestead
About 46 miles out from central London, Little Maplestead is part of the South East area we work across. Evening, overnight and weekend visits are all possible. Little Maplestead is covered by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.
Healthcare kitchens cannot easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Little Maplestead is Halstead Hospital, about 2.2 miles south-west. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Hedingham Castle is about 2.8 miles west), access may need planning.
Little Maplestead is about 3 miles north-east of Halstead, in Essex. From the centre of Little Maplestead to the outskirts, ductwork cleaning is available to all kinds of commercial premises, from a single unit to a large public building. 644 places in Essex are on our list, large and small. Our Chelmsford page covers sites nearby (18 miles or so).
We cover every part of CO9 for ductwork cleaning and the roads nearby. We cover sites on Cock Road, Sudbury Road and School Road and nearby roads. If your site is just outside Little Maplestead, we cover Great Maplestead (1 mile west), Wickham St Paul (1 mile north), Pebmarsh (2 miles east), Halstead (3 miles south-west) and Colne Engaine (3 miles south-east). Further out, we also cover Colchester (12 miles south-east), Braintree (8 miles south-west), Witham (12 miles south), Camulodunum (11 miles south-east), Great Dunmow (15 miles south-west) and Greenstead (13 miles south-east).

Staff cleaning versus specialist work
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.
What we are called out for in Little Maplestead
Slow air leaves the most grease behind. Long horizontal runs, bends, changes in size and the foot of a riser all collect more, and those are the points we pay most attention to.
Clients typically contact us after spotting one of these:
- Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
- Years of grease along the duct floor
- Grease leaking from duct joints
- Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
Church and community hall kitchens, near St John the Baptist Church or anywhere around Little Maplestead, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether a survey comes first
- When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
- What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed
- Proof of accreditation you can verify
When something else is needed
Not every problem is solved by ductwork cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:
- Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls
- Ductwork that was poorly designed
- An extract fan that has stopped working
Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
What the work covers
- Bends and junctions
- Horizontal duct runs
- Multi-storey ducts
- Access panels
- Attenuators
- Vertical risers
Leave it or put it right?
A fire in a greasy duct is hard to reach and hard to stop. The duct can carry it to rooms, floors or roof spaces well away from the kitchen, so cleaning the duct is as important as cleaning the hood. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.
Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we will price it together.
Why book with us
- In business since 2009
- Member of BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
- A written report with pictures after every visit
- Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line
Between visits
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Flag drips from the duct right away
- Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
- Ask for a grease thickness test if the kitchen gets busier
- Never cook with a filter missing
When the duct is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. It shows when and where the clean was done and by whom.
Extra access panels mean more of the duct gets cleaned each time. Grease you can reach is grease that gets removed.
The process
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. A few pictures of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Little Maplestead.
- We trace the duct and find every way in.
- Grease thickness is measured at set points.
- Out of hours, the area is protected and the access panels opened.
- Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
- We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.
How to prepare
- Clear the space around the work
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
How to get a quote
For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. You will normally have a quote within one working day.
Related advice
How the job changes from site to site
Bends and transitions
Grease tends to pile up at elbows. It’s scraped out and degreased, and readings are taken there before and after.
Horizontal duct runs
The underside of a horizontal duct collects the most grease. We scrape out the heavy layer first, then the walls and roof are cleaned too.

We take it away at the end of the visit. During the work, it’s contained so the area stays clean.
Will I get a report after the ducts are cleaned?
Every clean comes with a photo report, and a full TR19 clean also comes with a certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. File them with the fire risk assessment.

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Ask us for a fixed quote and we’ll usually reply within one working day.
Are you insured?
Yes, we’re fully insured. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it, for sites that check contractor safety.
What does TR19 mean?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
How is kitchen extract ductwork cleaned?
Through access panels along the duct. Thick deposits are removed by hand before degreasing, such as degreasers, hot water or steam.
