Ductwork cleaning around Leysdown-on-Sea

At about 1 mile from the coast, Leysdown-on-Sea is close enough for sea air to matter. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. Look up Leysdown-on-Sea on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you will find about 16 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 5 takeaways across Leysdown-on-Sea and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Behind every canopy among them is a run of ductwork that collects grease out of sight. The fire and rescue service for Leysdown-on-Sea is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

In and around Leysdown-on-Sea, as anywhere, the clean ends with a TR19® certificate and a photo report. In and around Leysdown-on-Sea, every reachable section of the extract is cleaned, and anything we can’t reach goes on the report.

Ductwork cleaning in Leysdown-on-Sea

In doctor’s terms, the ductwork is the system’s arteries: find the blockages, clear them, then check the flow is right. Readings taken before and after show the difference, alongside before and after photos. If you have thick crusts of old grease along the duct and a duct nobody has opened in years, we can put it right, from bends and junctions, attenuators and access panels onwards.

In a small place like Leysdown-on-Sea, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.

We have been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Between visits

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Leave a way through to the access panels
  • Check readings when the menu changes
  • Book the next clean before the recommended date
  • Make sure filters are seated properly

You’ll have a recommended date for the next clean, worked out from the grease we found and how long you cook each day, in line with BESA guidance.

Keep the fan on throughout service. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

How the job changes from site to site

Multi-storey and shared buildings

Long ducts in larger buildings can mean several visits. We agree a sequence that suits the building, out of hours where possible.

Vertical risers

Risers are cleaned through panels at different levels. Where it can’t be reached safely, the report says so.

What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • The condition of the system

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

What to send for a quote

A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • A few general shots of the system
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Call or email with a few details and you will typically have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Kent. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.

Leysdown-on-Sea questions

Can you get to a site in Leysdown-on-Sea?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Leysdown-on-Sea is covered. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Leysdown-on-Sea?

Kitchens in Leysdown-on-Sea are inspected by Swale council’s environmental health officers. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Will the duct clean disrupt the kitchen?

Out of hours, at a time that suits the kitchen. Larger systems may be cleaned over several nights, with the kitchen ready to cook each morning.

What types of premises do you cover?

All kinds of commercial and public premises: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.

How far ahead should we book?

Earlier is better, especially for out-of-hours work. Quotes usually come back within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

Can you fit access panels in our ductwork?

Yes, as part of our fits and repairs work. We place them where they help most, and we’ll recommend where.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

Do I get a certificate for ductwork cleaning?

Readings, pictures and, for a full clean, a TR19 certificate. The report says when the next clean is due.

What a clean won’t put right

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)
  • Undersized or badly laid-out ducts
  • Faulty fire dampers

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Where we work

  • Vertical risers
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Attenuators
  • Access panels
  • Bends and junctions

What happens if it’s left?

Old grease in a duct for a kitchen in Leysdown-on-Sea does not stay soft. It bakes into a hard layer that takes far longer to remove, which makes each delayed clean a bigger one. If the system at a site near Leysdown-on-Sea fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

How the visit works

Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Somewhere like Leysdown-on-Sea, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
  2. We measure grease thickness at set points before cleaning.
  3. Access panels are opened and heavy deposits scraped out by hand.
  4. Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
  5. We test again, take photos and note any part that couldn’t be reached.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms

Getting a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
