Ductwork cleaning near Holywell

Why it’s worth doing now in Holywell

Grease left in a duct in Holywell hardens over time. Heat and age turn it into a thick, stubborn crust, which makes each delayed clean a bigger one. A booked night’s work in Holywell costs you no trading time; an unplanned closure does.

We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

What you get with us

How we handle ductwork cleaning in Holywell

Nobody sees duct grease building, so nobody notices it until something goes wrong. A flare-up drawn up from the range can light it, carrying a fire along the duct and into rooms far from the kitchen. Removing it is the whole point. The work covers multi-storey ducts, access panels and bends and junctions, and common reasons people get in touch are a duct clean needed for an insurer and a rancid smell from the extract duct.

In London, few kitchens can spare a day to close, so extract cleaning in Holywell is typically done overnight, after the last service. Before the clean, we agree loading, parking and roof access with whoever manages the building.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

How the visit works

Our technicians bring everything the work needs, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. The visit takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. Night and weekend working is normal for us in London, and a site in Holywell is no exception.

  1. The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
  2. Grease thickness is measured at set points.
  3. Out of hours, the area is protected and the access panels opened.
  4. Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
  5. We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas

Getting a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Vertical risers

Risers are cleaned through panels at different levels. Any part that cannot be safely reached is recorded.

Access panels

After cleaning, every panel is closed and sealed so the duct stays tight. We will tell you if any panel needs replacing.

Looking after it afterwards

Once we have finished, these simple steps help:

  • File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
  • Keep access panels clear of stored items
  • Ask us about extra access panels where sections can’t be reached
  • Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up

A full system clean includes a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. It records the date, the location and the technician.

Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

What ductwork cleaning looks like in Holywell

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 28 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 6 hotels and guest houses across Holywell and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. In Holywell, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Watford council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. London jobs typically start after the last service, with loading and roof access agreed with the building first.

Historic houses near Holywell, such as High Elms Manor about 4.1 miles north, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes. Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Holywell is Watford General Hospital, about 0.9 miles east.

What staff can safely do

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

What affects the quote in Holywell

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • How big the system is
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are not sure what’s needed, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Asking for a quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings

Need a price for ductwork cleaning? Please phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and send you a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

Common problems we fix in Holywell

Ducts in Holywell gather grease for the same reasons as ducts anywhere: hours of cooking, the type of food and how well the filters are kept. BESA guidance sets minimum intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months depending on daily use.

Clients usually contact us after spotting one of these:

  • Hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs
  • An insurer asking for TR19 evidence
  • Ductwork that has never been cleaned
  • High readings at a recent grease test

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Oswald's Parish Church or elsewhere in Holywell, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Questions to ask before you book

  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
  • How they set the interval to the next visit
  • Whether a written report and pictures are included
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part

Our hiring checklist

Holywell: your questions answered

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Holywell during the holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. The FSA’s register shows about 24 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Holywell. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Which fire service covers Holywell?

London Fire Brigade is the fire and rescue service for Holywell. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

What does TR19 mean?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Every job is surveyed first, either from pictures and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.

When is the ductwork cleaned?

We clean while the kitchen is closed, so evenings, nights and weekends are all possible. The extract and cooking equipment need to be off.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.

What if part of the duct cannot be reached?

Every reachable section is cleaned and the rest recorded. Extra panels can be installed, and we can do that for you.

What do you do to protect the area?

We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
