How we handle ductwork cleaning in Great Sampford

Many ducts were installed with too few access doors. TR19 calls for any section we couldn’t reach to be recorded, and we can fit new access panels so it’s cleaned next time. An honest report beats a guess. The work covers access panels, multi-storey ducts and bends and junctions, and the jobs we see most are gaps where access panels were never fitted and heavy grease at the base of a riser.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with photos of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

Common problems we fix in Great Sampford

The further the air travels from the cooking, the cooler it gets. As it cools, the grease it carries condenses onto the duct walls, which is why ducts go on gathering grease well beyond the filters.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • Years of grease along the duct floor
  • An insurer asking for TR19 evidence
  • A duct nobody has opened in years
  • High readings at a recent grease test

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Great Sampford Community Primary School or anywhere near Great Sampford, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Great Sampford questions

Will you come out to Great Sampford?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Great Sampford included. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Do you work at weekends in Great Sampford?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. That way a site in Great Sampford does not have to lose a day’s trading. Let us know the hours you are closed and we’ll book within them.

How much notice should we give?

The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. Quotes usually come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

Who has the legal duty for fire safety?

In the words of the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person. That’s generally the employer or the person in control of the premises, and where several people have control, each can have duties. If you’re not sure, check your lease and fire risk assessment.

What do you do to protect the area?

Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

Do I get a certificate for ductwork cleaning?

A photo report, with readings and before and after photos, plus a TR19 certificate for a full system clean. It also gives a recommended next clean date.

Is a quote from pictures possible?

Yes, for many jobs. Send a few wide pictures plus close-ups of panels, filters or grilles, and we usually come back within one working day. Some sites still need a visit, and we will say so.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. We always survey first, from your photos and details, or with a visit where needed. A fixed quote follows.

What happens on the day

There are three stages on the day: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. The middle part takes longest, and that takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. If you can send photos, we can arrive in Great Sampford knowing what to expect.

  1. The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
  2. Grease thickness is measured at set points.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
  4. Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
  5. Panels are closed, readings and photos repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet

Getting a quote

For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. We typically come back within one working day.

Advice

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.

What the work involves, part by part

Attenuators and discharge

Some systems have attenuators to reduce noise, but they can hold grease in their linings. They’re cleaned where possible and recorded if not.

Horizontal duct runs

Long horizontal runs need access panels at regular intervals. Where the gaps between panels are too long, we record what couldn’t be reached and can fit extra panels.

Looking after it afterwards

Results last longer with the right care. We suggest:

  • File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
  • Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
  • Ask for a grease thickness test if the kitchen gets busier
  • Keep to the interval on the report

Access panels are closed and sealed back up after cleaning, and the surrounding area is left clean. Grease and dirty water are contained and removed.

Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. Moving air carries vapour through rather than letting it settle, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

What ductwork cleaning can’t fix

We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • A damper stuck open in the duct
  • A worn-out fan that needs replacing
  • Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
