Access panels
Extra panels can be installed where there are gaps, making future cleans more complete. We will recommend where they should go.
Multi-storey and shared buildings
A duct that climbs several floors may be cleaned over more than one visit. Visits are planned around the building’s hours, out of hours where possible.
Ductwork cleaning in Gadshill
Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, with each certificate issued through the BESCA portal. If you’re dealing with hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs and gaps where access panels were never fitted, we can help, from access panels, bends and junctions and horizontal duct runs onwards.
In a village or hamlet like Gadshill, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with pictures, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

Aftercare tips
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Tell us if grease leaks from the ductwork
- Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up
- Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
- Book the next clean before the recommended date
Access panels are closed and sealed back up after cleaning, and the surrounding area is left clean. Waste grease and water are taken away.
Watch for warning signs between cleans: grease leaking from duct joints, smells, or a fan that sounds rough. Testing will show whether any section has reached 500 microns.
How we price ductwork cleaning
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- Travel, parking and unloading
- The condition we find in the survey
- Any permits to work or inductions
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
You will not find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and we’ll explain what it covers.
What we need to know
There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- The site address and the type of premises
For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. You will usually have a quote within one working day.
What staff can safely do
If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We will take a look and give you a fixed quote.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
How it works
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to Gadshill.
- We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
- Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
- Access panels are opened and heavy deposits scraped out by hand.
- The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
- Readings and pictures are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.
Getting ready for the visit
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Tell us where we can park and unload
- Find the previous report, if there is one
Getting a quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before we start.
Advice
When to call us in Gadshill
Slow air leaves the most grease behind. Long horizontal runs, bends, changes in size and the foot of a riser all collect more, and those are the points we pay most attention to.
Keep an eye out for these warning signs:
- Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
- Grease seeping out of the duct seams
- A duct nobody has opened in years
- Gaps where access panels were never fitted
If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Gadshill (Temple Manor is about 1.9 miles south-east), fitting access panels needs care.
What your quote should include
- If they look at the system before pricing
- How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
- What hours they’ll be on site
- What paperwork you get at the end

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

Gadshill: your questions answered
Which council inspects kitchens in Gadshill?
The local authority for Gadshill is Gravesham council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.
Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Gadshill during the holidays?

What is TR19?

What should I send you?
Some photos and a quick description of the system, with the address and opening hours. If we need more, we will ask.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we’ll suggest a schedule and quote for it.
Can you clean ductwork with no access panels?
Sections out of reach are written down on the report, as TR19 expects. We can fit new access panels so they’re cleaned next time.
