About our ductwork cleaning in Forstal
Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. We are often asked to deal with years of grease along the duct floor and a grease test showing the duct is overdue, across bends and junctions, multi-storey ducts and vertical risers.
In a small place like Forstal, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a dated report with pictures of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

FAQs for Forstal
Do you work in villages like Forstal?
Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Forstal is covered. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Can a school canteen extract in Forstal be done out of term time?
Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Around Forstal, the Food Standards Agency lists about 5 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Send us your term dates when you ring 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we will fit the work in.
What do you do with what you remove?
It leaves the site with us when we go. During the work, it’s contained to keep the area clean.
When is the ductwork cleaned?
When the kitchen is closed. Larger systems may be cleaned over several nights, with the kitchen ready to cook each morning.
What should I send you?
The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, plus photos of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
What’s involved in cleaning extract ducts?
After a survey and grease readings, the duct is opened up through its access panels. Each run and riser is scraped and degreased, and test again when we’re done.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.
What do you do to protect the area?
With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. We keep the work contained and clean down when we finish.
For landlords and multi-site operators
Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Kent. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we’ll send a fixed quote.
How it works
The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and photos. The middle part takes longest, and that takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. The timing of a visit to Forstal is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.
- We trace the duct and find every way in.
- Grease thickness is measured at set points.
- Out of hours, the area is protected and the access panels opened.
- Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
- Panels are closed, readings and photos repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Tell us where we can park and unload

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.

Why act early in Forstal
Insurers know the risk of a greasy duct. Many policies require TR19 cleaning, and a claim may be refused or reduced without evidence. Your certificate and photo report show the ducts were cleaned. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.
The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.
Why Forstal businesses choose us
- A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London
- Work around your opening hours, with 24/7 emergency cover
- CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, with ISO 9001
- Fixed quotes, normally within one working day

Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
How we price ductwork cleaning
We do not publish a price list, because sites vary so much. The quote depends on:
- The condition of the system
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- Travel, parking and unloading
- A single visit or a regular plan
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re unsure, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.
Asking for a quote
Many jobs can be priced from photos and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- Problems your staff have spotted
Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you will usually have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.
Honest limits
Ductwork cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It will not put right:
- Leaking duct joints that need repair
- A duct that is too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)
- A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)
Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Forstal is covered by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. It’s Tonbridge and Malling council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Forstal. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

Do you need ductwork cleaning in Forstal?
A vertical riser can run up several floors. Grease clings to the walls and can run down to the base, where it can pool. Access along its height is needed to clean it properly.
Keep an eye out for these warning signs:
- Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
- Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
- Stale grease odours from the duct
- Grease leaking from duct joints
Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Methodist Church Including Sunday School, or anywhere in Forstal, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.
What your quote should include
- How VAT is shown on the quote
- When the next visit should be, and why
- When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
- What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed
