Ductwork cleaning in Ford, done properly
Grease in a duct is hidden, which is exactly why it’s dangerous. A flare-up drawn up from the range can light it, and fire can then run along the ductwork to other parts of the building. Cleaning the duct takes that fuel away. We are often asked to deal with smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork and high readings at a recent grease test, across attenuators, horizontal duct runs and multi-storey ducts.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
Good records are part of the job. You get a written report with photos after every visit, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that’s where we come in.
Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Ford
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Ford?
Fire safety enforcement in Ford is handled by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Which environmental health team covers Ford?
In Ford, it’s Arun council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.
Can you price the work without visiting?
Usually, yes. Send wide shots, close-ups of any access panels and anything that worries you, and a fixed quote usually follows within one working day. Some sites still need a visit, and we will say so.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we’ll quote them together.
Do I get a certificate for ductwork cleaning?
Readings, photos and, for a full clean, a TR19 certificate. The report says when the next clean is due.
Can you fit access panels in our ductwork?
Yes, we do. The survey or clean shows where sections couldn’t be reached, and we can fit them so those sections are cleaned in future.
Which sectors do you work in?
We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.
How is kitchen extract ductwork cleaned?
Each section is cleaned through its own panel. Grease is scraped out first, then degreased, with readings taken before and after.
Leave it or put it right?
A dirty duct is something insurers ask about. Many require cleaning to TR19, and they can refuse or reduce a claim without proof. Your certificate and photo report show the ducts were cleaned. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re not sure what’s needed, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.
Why book with us
- Trading since 2009
- Every visit written up, with pictures
- BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
- A fixed price before any work starts
The process
Your trading hours come first. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that is an evening, overnight or a weekend. Once we’re in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. If you can send photos, we can arrive in Ford knowing what to expect.
- We trace the duct and find every way in.
- We take grease readings along the route.
- Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
- Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
- We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.
Before we arrive
- Tell us where we can park and unload
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
How to get a quote
We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
Advice
Part by part
Access panels
Extra panels can be installed where there are gaps, making future cleans more complete. We will recommend where they should go.
Bends and transitions
Wherever the duct turns or changes size, grease builds up. Slowing air leaves grease behind, so these points get extra attention.
Grease, kitchens and Ford
Sea air reaches Ford, which sits within about 2 miles of the coast. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. There are about 4 restaurants, cafés and canteens within about 1.5 miles of central Ford, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Each kitchen that cooks under a canopy sends grease-laden air into a duct, where it cools and settles. Kitchens in Ford get their food hygiene inspections from Arun council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
A hospital like Arundel and District Hospital, about 2.1 miles north, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. Church and community hall kitchens, near The Parish Church of St Andrew or anywhere around Ford, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.
Ford is about 2 miles north-west of Littlehampton, in West Sussex. We carry out ductwork cleaning for commercial premises of every kind in Ford and the rest of West Sussex. Across West Sussex, we cover 371 places, Ford among them. For sites nearby, see our Brighton page, about 20 miles away.

What’s near Ford
We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around The Arundel Arms Public House At Ford Station and the streets around them. There’s a railway station in Ford itself: Ford station. A little further out are Arundel and District Hospital (2.1 miles north) and Rustington Museum (3.5 miles east). For a walk, there’s WWT Arundel.
Honest limits
Ductwork cleaning can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:
- A damper stuck open in the duct
- Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls
- A duct that’s too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)
If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.
Parts of the system we cover
- Multi-storey ducts
- Attenuators
- Access panels
- Vertical risers
- Bends and junctions
- Horizontal duct runs
What we’re called out for in Ford
A duct with too few access doors cannot be fully cleaned. Stretches with no way in may never have been touched, and grease there keeps thickening unseen.
What we’re most often called out for:
- Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
- Ductwork that has never been cleaned
- Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
- Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
If you run a café or takeaway near Ford station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.
Questions to ask before you book
- What insurance they carry
- Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
- Whether VAT is included
- Proof of accreditation you can verify

Managing agents and facilities teams in Ford
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across West Sussex. Work can be phased by floor, building or site around the people who use them.
