Book ductwork cleaning in Bowcombe

What we do, step by step

Each visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, isolate whatever needs isolating, carry out the ductwork cleaning, tidy up and leave you the report. On site, the work takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Bowcombe.

  1. We trace the duct and find every way in.
  2. Grease thickness is measured at set points.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
  4. Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
  5. Panels are closed, readings and photos repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.

Getting ready for the visit

Advice

Ductwork cleaning in Bowcombe, done properly

Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. We’re often asked to deal with a grease test showing the duct is overdue and stale grease odours from the duct, across horizontal duct runs, bends and junctions and vertical risers.

For a kitchen in or near Bowcombe, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

The report is your system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal, ready for your insurer.

Leave it or put it right?

A partly blocked duct slows the airflow. The fan works harder, the kitchen gets hotter and smoke lingers at the canopy and grease can drip from duct joints. It’s simpler to plan the work at Bowcombe now than to arrange it in a hurry later.

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.

Different parts, different methods

Access panels

Extra panels can be installed where there are gaps, making future cleans more complete. We’ll recommend where they should go.

Horizontal duct runs

Flat runs of duct link the canopy to the riser or the outside wall. Grease drops out of the slowing air along them, so each section is cleaned through its access panels.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Every visit ends with a dated report and pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

Do you need ductwork cleaning in Bowcombe?

Slow air leaves the most grease behind. Flat runs, bends, reducers and the base of risers are the usual hotspots, and those are the points we pay most attention to.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • Years of grease along the duct floor
  • A grease test showing the duct is overdue
  • Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
  • Stale grease odours from the duct

Historic houses near Bowcombe, such as Carisbrooke Castle about 1.2 miles north-east, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes.

What to look for in a quote

  • How they set the interval to the next visit
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
  • Whether VAT is included

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

What your team can do, and what needs us

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. A few tips:

  • Ask for a grease thickness test if the kitchen gets busier
  • Get panels fitted where the duct couldn’t be cleaned
  • Keep to the interval on the report
  • Run the extract fan throughout service

Any section of duct we couldn’t reach is listed on the report, with the reason. You can then decide whether to have access panels fitted.

The less grease gets past the canopy, the cleaner the duct stays. Keep the filters clean, well fitted and in place whenever you cook.

Grease, kitchens and Bowcombe

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 3 pubs and bars within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Bowcombe. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. In Bowcombe, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Isle of Wight council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Fire safety in Bowcombe falls to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St. Nicholas in Castro or elsewhere in Bowcombe, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. For schools such as Christ The King College, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

What do you do to protect the area?

Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Only a few details: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. After that, simply ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Can you fit access panels in our ductwork?

Yes. The survey or clean shows where sections couldn’t be reached, and fitting them means future cleans are more complete.
