Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Apuldram

We’ve been trading since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, with each certificate issued through the BESCA portal. Typical jobs include readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test and a duct nobody has opened in years, across vertical risers, horizontal duct runs and attenuators.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. You get a written report with photos after every visit, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. File it in your maintenance log so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

Why deal with it now?

Grease narrows the duct and slows the air. Less air moves, so heat and smoke stay in the kitchen while the fan strains and grease can drip from duct joints. In a place like Apuldram, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.

We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll talk you through it.

Apuldram questions

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Apuldram?

The local authority for Apuldram is Chichester council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Apuldram in the summer holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. With about 13 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Apuldram, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the dates the site is empty.

What’s involved in cleaning extract ducts?

After a survey and grease readings, the duct is opened up through its access panels. Each run and riser is scraped and degreased, and test again when we’re done.

Are you accredited?

We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

What happens if there aren’t enough access panels?

Ductwork needs access to be cleaned. Those parts are listed, and we can install panels so they’re reached next time.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Every site has its own report.

How far ahead should we book?

Earlier is better, particularly for night and weekend visits. We usually quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

Can extra access doors be added to the duct?

Yes, as part of our fits and repairs work. We place them where they help most, and we’ll recommend where.

Between visits

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Flag drips from the duct straight away
  • Get panels fitted where the duct couldn’t be cleaned
  • Keep your cleaning records together
  • Book the next clean before the recommended date

A full system clean includes a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. It shows when and where the clean was done and by whom.

The less grease gets past the canopy, the cleaner the duct stays. Keep the filters clean, well fitted and in place whenever you cook.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across West Sussex. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.

What ductwork cleaning cannot fix

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what ductwork cleaning will not do:

  • Undersized or badly laid-out ducts
  • Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls
  • Duct sections that need replacing

If you are not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will give you a straight answer.

  • Attenuators
  • Bends and junctions

  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Multi-storey ducts

What happens on the day

At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. All told, the work takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to Apuldram run smoothly.

  1. The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
  2. We take grease readings along the route.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
  4. Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
  5. We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use

Different parts, different methods

Attenuators and discharge

The last section of duct before the discharge is often the coolest, so it can collect more grease than expected. It’s tested and cleaned along with the rest.

Access panels

Panels have to seal properly once they’re closed so the duct stays tight. A damaged panel is noted on the report.

When to call us in Apuldram

Air cools as it moves away from the canopy. Cooling air drops its grease onto the inside of the duct, so duct runs keep collecting grease long after the canopy.

Common reasons sites call us are:

  • Duct runs that can’t be reached
  • Stale grease odours from the duct
  • A duct nobody has opened in years
  • Thick crusts of old grease along the duct

Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Apuldram is St Richard's Hospital, about 2.1 miles north-east.

What to look for in a quote

  • How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
  • How they set the interval to the next visit
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
