Canopy cleaning near Westcroft

Canopy cleaning in Westcroft

We clean canopies in Westcroft when the kitchen is not cooking: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Cooking equipment is turned off and cooled, then covered so the kitchen is ready when we go. The work covers island canopies, plenum chambers and wall canopies, and the jobs we see most are canopy gutters full of old fat and grease dripping from the canopy edge.

Size doesn’t change the work: a kitchen in a place like Westcroft gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.

The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

What the work involves, part by part

Pub and hotel kitchens

Pub and hotel kitchens can cook from breakfast to late evening. That is a lot of grease on the canopy, so it may need cleaning between full TR19 cleans.

Island canopies

The underside of an island canopy is in full view, so the finish matters. We degrease it thoroughly and photograph the result.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:

  • Flag any change in how the canopy behaves
  • Never run the range with a filter out
  • Do not scrape the canopy with metal tools
  • Clean the baffle filters often

We clear away the sheeting, waste grease and water before we leave. Filters are back in place and seated properly, and the kitchen is ready to cook.

A change in how the canopy behaves is worth reporting. More drips or quicker clogging often mean the cleaning interval needs looking at, which a grease thickness test can confirm.

Why it’s worth doing now in Westcroft

If the canopy waits for the next full clean, grease keeps adding up. In a busy kitchen, the canopy and plenum can need attention between TR19 cleans, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. A visit arranged in advance is far less disruptive than a callout on a busy day.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.

Questions from Westcroft

Which environmental health team covers Westcroft?

That’s Milton Keynes council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Westcroft. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Do you cover smaller places like Westcroft?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Westcroft included. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Why does grease run off the canopy edge?

Full gutters and a heavily coated plenum are the common causes. Grease has nowhere else to go, so it runs down and drips, and condensation can carry it too. A canopy clean sorts it out.

Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?

The Fire Safety Order 2005 calls them the responsible person: normally the employer or whoever controls the premises. In shared or managed buildings, a landlord, facilities manager or managing agent can share the duty.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. One number covers all your sites in our area, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We are fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Milton Keynes. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
  • A light fitting that doesn’t work
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Where we work

  • Baffle filters
  • Grease gutters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Island canopies
  • Wall canopies

What we do, step by step

Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes a few hours for most canopies. Around Westcroft, access is typically simpler than in a town centre, though gates and roof access are worth mentioning.

  1. We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
  2. Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
  3. Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
  4. We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
  5. The canopy is signed off with before and after pictures and a next clean date.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Clear loose items from the work area

Advice

What staff can safely do

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

What canopy cleaning looks like in Westcroft

Look up Westcroft on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you will find about 27 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 10 takeaways and sandwich shops in and around Westcroft, up to about a mile and a half out. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. In Westcroft, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Milton Keynes council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Fire safety in Westcroft falls to Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Oxley Park Academy, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Giles's Church or elsewhere in Westcroft, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Bletchley Park is about 2.4 miles east), access may need planning.

Westcroft is about 2 miles west of Bletchley, in Milton Keynes. If you need canopy cleaning in Westcroft, please ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email for a fixed quote.
