Canopy Cleaning in Wash Common
Canopy and hood cleaning for businesses, landlords and public buildings in Wash Common. BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease.
- A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
- Wet, greasy drips from the hood
- Greasy streaks across the canopy
Different parts, different methods
Grease troughs and gutters
Some troughs drain to a cup or drawer, we empty and clean that as well, and we’ll show staff where it is.
Plenums and filter housings
Behind the grease filters is the plenum. It catches whatever gets past the filters, so it’s scraped and degreased on every canopy clean.
Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Wash Common
If the canopy in Wash Common is dripping, sticky or overdue a clean? Send us a photo of the hood and filters when you call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and you will get a fixed price, normally within one working day. If you are dealing with grease channels that no longer drain and a canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection, we can put it right, from canopy light fittings, island canopies and baffle filters onwards.
Around a smaller place like Wash Common, kitchen extracts tend to belong to pubs, cafés, takeaways and school or care home kitchens. Quieter kitchens still collect grease in the duct, just more slowly, so cleaning is planned around how much it cooks and what the readings show.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

What your team can do, and what needs us
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.
Canopy cleaning in Wash Common: the local picture
There are about 8 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 3 sandwich bars and takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Wash Common, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Any of those kitchens with a canopy has a hood that needs cleaning inside and out. It’s West Berkshire council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Wash Common. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Wash Common sits within the area of Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.
If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Benham Park is about 2.4 miles north-west), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St Luke Church, or anywhere in Wash Common, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

When it’s something else
Canopy cleaning can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:
- Electrical faults in the canopy
- Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
- A fan that can’t pull enough air because it’s worn out
If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think.
Parts of the system we cover
- Wall canopies
- Canopy light fittings
- Island canopies
- Grease gutters
- Plenum chambers
- Baffle filters
How we price canopy cleaning
There’s no set price list, because no two systems are the same. What we look at:
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- The number of sites or systems
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- The size of the system
We don’t list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll talk you through it.
What to send for a quote
When you call or email, these details help:
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
Need a price for canopy cleaning? Please call 0345 646 2711, or email photos with a few details about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and give you a fixed quote before anything is booked.
Why deal with it now?
In Wash Common, as elsewhere, a greasy canopy is one of the first things an inspector sees. Keeping it clean shows the rest of the kitchen is being looked after, and it’s far easier to keep clean than to rescue. A quieter site near Wash Common still needs its system looked after.
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

What happens on the day
The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes a few hours for most canopies. Evenings, weekends or a closed day all work for a site in a place like Wash Common.
- We look at the canopy first, from photos or on a visit.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
- The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after pictures go into your report.
Before we arrive
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
- Clear loose items from the work area
Get a fixed quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
