How we handle canopy cleaning in Wallingford

Of the whole extract system, the canopy is the bit on show. Being first in line, it collects grease on the inside surfaces, along the seams and in the troughs. Our canopy clean covers the shell inside and out, plus the plenum and the filter housing. If you have filters that never seem to stay clean and grease channels that no longer drain, we can help, from baffle filters, wall canopies and grease gutters onwards.

Kitchens around a place like Wallingford are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Flat runs collect grease and need proper access to clean.

We have been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

What your team can do, and what needs us

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Different parts, different methods

Grease troughs and gutters

Some troughs drain to a cup or drawer, that is emptied and cleaned too, and we’ll show staff where it is.

Island canopies

Island canopies often have filters on two sides. We work round the canopy, cleaning each filter bank and plenum.

What happens if it’s left?

A canopy clean in Wallingford now stops the grease spreading further. It takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits, out of hours so service carries on. Put off, the grease simply moves further into the system. Light use slows the build-up but doesn’t stop it.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

How it works

Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the job takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Evenings, weekends or a closed day all work for a site in a place like Wallingford.

  1. First the canopy is surveyed, by photos or in person.
  2. Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
  3. Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
  4. Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
  5. We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.

How to prepare

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet

Aftercare tips

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:

  • Empty the grease troughs before they fill
  • Don’t scrape the canopy with metal tools
  • Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
  • Leave the extract running until cooking stops

After the clean you get a photo report showing the canopy, plenum and housing before and after. It notes what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, so the record is honest and complete.

Empty the grease troughs and cups before they fill. Overflowing troughs are the usual cause of drips onto the range, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Wallingford

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Oxfordshire. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

Wallingford: your questions answered

Do you work in villages like Wallingford?

Yes, Wallingford is part of our area, however small the site. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Wallingford?

That’s Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

How long is a canopy clean?

One lightly soiled hood doesn’t take long, but large or heavily soiled canopies take longer. We will tell you what to expect.

Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?

That depends on who controls the premises. The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty on the responsible person, which can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, an FM or a managing agent.

How much notice should we give?

Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. For many sites, photos and a few details are enough, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

What happens to the waste?

It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on rather than letting it spread.

Why is my canopy dripping grease?

Usually because the troughs or gutters are full, or the plenum is overloaded. With nowhere to collect, the grease overflows, and condensation can carry it too. A canopy clean sorts it out.

  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
