Canopy cleaning near Thorpe

Canopy cleaning in Thorpe, done properly

Of the whole extract system, the canopy is the bit on show. Being first in line, it collects grease on the inside surfaces, along the seams and in the troughs. We clean it inside and out, along with the plenum and filter housing behind it. Common call-outs are for a canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection and smoke hanging around the canopy during service, across plenum chambers, wall canopies and grease gutters.

Work in a small place like Thorpe starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Think of the report as the system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal and sits alongside the report.

Leave it or put it right?

When grease clogs the filters and plenum, the canopy can’t draw air as it should. The kitchen gets hotter and smokier while the fan strains. Cleaning restores the path the air should take. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Thorpe during the holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. With about 11 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Thorpe, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the dates the site is empty.

Which accreditations do you hold?

How much does canopy cleaning cost in Thorpe?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Ask us for a fixed quote, typically ready within one working day.

What types of premises do you cover?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Where does the waste go?

We take it away at the end of the visit. While we work, it’s kept contained so the area stays clean.

Is Thorpe in your area?

Yes. We work in Thorpe and the rest of Surrey, within our South East and London area. For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Does the law say we must follow TR19?

Not in itself. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19® as the benchmark, and many insurers ask for proof of cleaning to it. The law behind it is the Fire Safety Order 2005, which applies in England and Wales.

Part by part

Grease troughs and gutters

Where a trough drains into a grease cup, that’s emptied and cleaned too, and we’ll show staff where it is.

Pub and hotel kitchens

A hotel or pub kitchen can rarely close for long. Canopy cleans are done late at night or early in the morning so the kitchen keeps trading.

What canopy cleaning looks like in Thorpe

Food Standards Agency records include about 10 bars, pubs and nightclubs in and around Thorpe, up to about a mile and a half out. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Food hygiene inspections in Thorpe are the job of Runnymede council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. Fire safety in Thorpe falls to Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Mary, or anywhere in Thorpe, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. For schools such as Thorpe CofE Aided Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Thorpe (Botleys Mansion is about 2.5 miles south), fitting access panels needs care.

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Thorpe

The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits

You will not find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, and then give you a fixed quote. To start, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

What we do, step by step

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. The middle part takes longest, which takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. Somewhere as small as Thorpe, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive

Between visits

So the system stays in good health:

  • Check all filters are fitted before service
  • Check filters aren’t leaving gaps
  • Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
  • Report new drips or smells from the canopy

Anything worth knowing goes into the report: bent or poorly fitting filters, a light cover that is cracked, or troughs that fill too quickly. We keep it to what matters.

Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.
