Canopy cleaning near The Haven

Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in The Haven

Canopy cleaning is part of every full TR19® Grease clean, but a canopy can also need cleaning on its own, between full system cleans. In that case, the report makes clear what was and wasn’t cleaned, so your records stay accurate. If you are dealing with a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away and a filter housing caked in grease, we can help, from wall canopies, canopy light fittings and island canopies onwards.

In a village or hamlet like The Haven, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

What happens if it’s left?

When grease clogs the filters and plenum, the canopy can’t draw air as it should. The kitchen gets hotter and smokier while the fan strains. A clean canopy and plenum let the extract do its job. A planned visit to The Haven is easier to arrange than an emergency callout.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before work begins.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.

Questions from The Haven

Will you come out to The Haven?

Yes, The Haven is part of our area, however small the site. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Which fire authority looks after The Haven?

That’s West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

All kinds of commercial and public premises: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. We fit the work around how the site operates.

Who is the responsible person?

In the words of the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person. It’s normally the employer, or whoever controls the building, and in shared buildings more than one person can have duties. If you are not sure, check your lease and fire risk assessment.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.

What does TR19 mean?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

What do you do to protect the area?

We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

Will I get a report after the canopy clean?

Every clean comes with a photo report, listing what was cleaned. Where the whole system is cleaned, you also get a TR19 certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What the work involves, part by part

Plenums and filter housings

Behind neglected filters, the plenum can be heavily coated. We remove thick grease by hand, then degrease.

Pub and hotel kitchens

Few pubs and hotels can shut the kitchen for a day. We clean the canopy overnight or between services so the kitchen keeps trading.

Honest limits

In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • A dirty extract fan further along the system
  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
  • A fan that can’t pull enough air because it’s worn out

If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we work on in The Haven

  • Plenum chambers
  • Grease gutters
  • Wall canopies
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Island canopies
  • Baffle filters

Do you need canopy cleaning in The Haven?

Grease that runs down the inside of a canopy gathers in its gutters and troughs. Left to fill up, they spill over, and grease ends up dripping from the canopy edge.

What we’re most often called out for:

  • A plenum thick with grease behind the filters
  • Condensation and grease dripping together
  • A hood coated in old grease
  • Poor capture at the hood

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Horsham Hospital about 5.3 miles east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed
  • Exactly which parts of the system are covered
  • What records you will receive afterwards
  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours

How it works

Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits, and we clear up before we go. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to The Haven.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. A few tips:

  • Check filters aren’t leaving gaps
  • Empty the grease troughs before they fill
  • Clean the baffle filters often
  • Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily

We point out anything we noticed while the canopy was apart: bent or poorly fitting filters, a light cover that’s cracked, or troughs that fill too quickly. We keep it to what matters.

Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It does not reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.
