Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Radnage
We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers wall canopies, island canopies and baffle filters, and people most often call us about a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away and grease dripping from the canopy edge.
Somewhere as small as Radnage, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.
The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with photos of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Looking after it afterwards
So the system stays in good health:
- Run the extract the whole time you are cooking
- Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
- Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
- Report new drips or smells from the canopy
We clear away the sheeting, waste grease and water before we leave. Filters are back in place and seated properly, and the kitchen is ready to cook.
A daily wipe of the hood keeps fresh grease from baking on. It does not reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.
When something else is needed
We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so here are the limits:
- Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
- A hood that does not cover the cooking line
If you’re not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

How we price canopy cleaning
The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:
- Parking and loading at the site
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- The number of sites or systems
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before work begins.
Helping us quote
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- The site address and the type of premises
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few photos and any previous report or certificate. Then call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.
Other services in Radnage
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
What we are called out for in Radnage
Grease does not build up any differently in Radnage: the hours and the type of cooking decide how fast. High-heat cooking coats it fastest.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- A filter housing caked in grease
- Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
- Condensation running down the canopy
- Fat running down the front of the hood
Where a hall near Church of St Mary, or anywhere in Radnage, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Radnage questions
Do you work at weekends in Radnage?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The site is handed back ready to open. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Radnage?
That is Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
What about areas you can’t get to?
The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.
Which accreditations do you hold?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.
What does canopy cleaning cost?
We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. You get a fixed price before any work starts.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.
Do we lose a day’s trading?
Not typically. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Bigger sites can be done in stages so parts stay in use.
Does the law say we must follow TR19?
No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19® is the benchmark for showing that grease in the extract is under control.
What happens if it’s left?
Leaving the canopy until the next full clean can mean months of build-up. In a busy kitchen, the canopy and plenum can need attention between TR19 cleans, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. A planned visit to Radnage is easier to arrange than an emergency callout.
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re unsure, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos for straight advice and a fixed quote.

How it works
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. Somewhere like Radnage, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.
- We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
- Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
- Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
- We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
- You get pictures of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Tell us where we can park and unload
Getting a quote
For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. We usually come back within one working day.

Radnage kitchens: local notes
Food Standards Agency data counts about 4 restaurants, cafés and works canteens within about 1.5 miles of central Radnage. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Radnage. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. It’s Buckinghamshire council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Radnage. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.
