About our canopy cleaning in Snodland
Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We are often asked to deal with a filter housing caked in grease and grease channels that no longer drain, across plenum chambers, canopy light fittings and baffle filters.
In a smaller place like Snodland, many kitchens sit in older buildings or later extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.
We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

Your questions about canopy cleaning in Snodland
Do you work overnight in Snodland?
Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. It means the site in Snodland keeps running as normal. When you phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us, mention when the site is quiet.
Will you come out to Snodland?
Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Snodland is covered. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.
How long will it take to clean the canopy?
It takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. We will confirm how long when we quote.
Do you clean inside the canopy as well as outside?
The full canopy, inside and out, and the plenum behind it. Grease troughs and filter channels are emptied and degreased as part of the job.
How much does canopy cleaning cost?
Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Ask us for a fixed quote, normally ready within one working day.
What accreditations do you have?
Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.
What do you do with what you remove?
Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.
Does a canopy clean meet TR19?
A TR19® Grease clean covers the whole system, not just the canopy. Cleaning the canopy alone leaves the ducts, risers and fan untouched, and the report will say what was covered.
Grease, kitchens and Snodland
There are about 15 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 10 takeaways and sandwich shops across Snodland and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half), according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. In Snodland, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Tonbridge and Malling council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. Snodland sits within the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
Term dates shape school work: for a school like Snodland CofE Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Maidstone Hospital is the nearest hospital to Snodland, about 4.3 miles south-east.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
When it’s something else
Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:
- Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think before you book.
Parts of the system we cover
- Wall canopies
- Canopy light fittings
- Grease gutters
- Island canopies
- Baffle filters
- Plenum chambers
Looking after it afterwards
How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
- Don’t scrape the canopy with metal tools
- Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
- Never run the range with a filter out
The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Filters are back in place and seated properly ready for the next service.
Tell us if the canopy starts dripping or the filters clog sooner than usual. It can mean the cooking has changed or the interval is too long, which a grease thickness test can confirm.
What happens on the day
We are used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. Your opening hours decide when we come to Snodland, not ours.
- First the canopy is surveyed, by photos or in person.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
- The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after pictures go into your report.
Getting ready for the visit
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
- Clear the space around the work
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms

Why act early in Snodland
In Snodland, as elsewhere, a greasy canopy is one of the first things an inspector sees. A clean hood is a sign the kitchen is cared for, and it’s far easier to keep clean than to rescue. In a smaller place like Snodland, a site that has to close is felt quickly.
A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. You’ll have a fixed price before work begins.
Why book with us
- Fully insured
- Every job surveyed first
- Fixed quotes, usually within one working day
- CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001

What we are called out for in Snodland
Most canopies have troughs or channels that catch running grease. If they’re not emptied, they fill and overflow, so fat ends up running down the front of the hood.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- A filter housing caked in grease
- Grease channels that no longer drain
- Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
- Condensation and grease dripping together
A kitchen near Snodland station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
- If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
- What hours they’ll be on site
- How they set the interval to the next visit
