Book canopy cleaning in Snagshall

How the visit works

Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. The visit takes a few hours for most canopies. Somewhere as small as Snagshall, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need

About our canopy cleaning in Snagshall

The canopy is the part of the extract everyone in the kitchen sees. It’s also the first place cooking vapour meets, so grease gathers on its inner skin, seams and gutters. We clean it inside and out, along with the plenum and filter housing behind it. The work covers canopy light fittings, plenum chambers and wall canopies, and people most often call us about canopy gutters full of old fat and condensation running down the canopy.

Somewhere as small as Snagshall, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.

We have been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

Part by part

Island canopies

Island canopies hang over cooking in the middle of the kitchen, which means grease settles on all four sides. Each face is cleaned inside and out.

Plenums and filter housings

Behind neglected filters, the plenum can be heavily coated. Heavy deposits are scraped out by hand before degreasing.

What canopy cleaning looks like in Snagshall

Look up Snagshall on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 4 restaurants, cafés and works canteens within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Snagshall. Every kitchen among them that cooks under a canopy has a hood, plenum and filters collecting grease. Fire safety in Snagshall falls to East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. Kitchens in Snagshall get their food hygiene inspections from Rother council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Bodiam Church of England Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near The Parish Church of St James or elsewhere in Snagshall, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Snagshall (Great Dixter is about 2.2 miles east), fitting access panels needs care.

When it’s something else

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
  • Electrical faults in the canopy
  • A canopy undersized for the equipment

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Island canopies
  • Plenum chambers
  • Baffle filters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Grease gutters
  • Wall canopies

What happens if it’s left?

Grease on the canopy is sitting just above the heat source. A flare-up can catch it and be drawn into the plenum and duct, where a fire is much harder to stop. Cleaning it removes that fuel. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Snagshall

We don’t publish a price list, because sites vary so much. The quote depends on:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • How big the system is
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before we start.

What to send for a quote

We can often survey from photos. The most useful are:

  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it

If you need canopy cleaning in Snagshall, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email. Tell us what kind of premises it is and when it’s open, and send photos or your last report if you can. A fixed quote normally follows within one working day.

Between visits

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
  • Give the canopy a wipe after service
  • Keep every filter in place while cooking
  • Empty the grease troughs before they fill

Where the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Where only the canopy is done, the report says so clearly.

Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It does not reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across East Sussex. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.

Snagshall: your questions answered

Is Snagshall within the area you cover?

Yes. Snagshall is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Which fire authority looks after Snagshall?

That is East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes, of course. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we will propose a schedule with a fixed quote.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Just the basics: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

How long is a canopy clean?

That depends on the size of the canopy and how much grease is on it. Typically it takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several.

What happens to the filters during the clean?

They’re taken out, cleaned and refitted. We check each one seats properly, because gaps let grease through.

Do we need to close while you work?

Normally not. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Larger jobs can be phased over several visits so parts stay in use.

How do you protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before work begins, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
