Canopy cleaning in River

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

About our canopy cleaning in River

Canopy cleaning is part of every full TR19® Grease clean, but a canopy can also need cleaning on its own, between full system cleans. In that case, the report makes clear what was and wasn’t cleaned, so your records stay accurate. If you have a sticky, discoloured canopy and canopy gutters full of old fat, we can help.

In a smaller place like River, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. A kitchen that cooks fewer hours still builds up grease, so the interval is set by hours of use and grease readings.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. You get a written report with photos after each visit, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

What the work involves, part by part

Grease troughs and gutters

Drips from the canopy edge often start in a full gutter. We clean it out so the grease has somewhere to go.

Wall canopies

Long wall canopies often have several filter banks. Each section’s plenum and housing is cleaned in turn, with pictures for each.

The process

Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. For a site near River, the work is booked around your opening hours, evenings and weekends included.

  1. First the canopy is surveyed, by photos or in person.
  2. Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
  3. Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
  4. Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
  5. We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Move anything stored near the system

Related advice

Leave it or put it right?

A blocked plenum and clogged filters cut the airflow at the canopy. The kitchen gets hotter and smokier while the fan strains. A clean canopy and plenum let the extract do its job. Systems on quieter sites still build up dirt and wear, just more slowly.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

What staff can safely do

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

Common questions in River

Is River within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Which environmental health team covers River?

The local authority for River is Dover council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, fully. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it, for sites that check contractor safety.

Can you clean the canopy outside our opening hours?

We clean when the kitchen is closed: after service, overnight or before opening. The range must be switched off and cooled first.

Can I just have the canopy cleaned instead of the whole system?

You can have the canopy cleaned on its own, but it will not cover the ductwork or fan. For TR19, the whole system needs cleaning, at intervals set by BESA guidance.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, any time. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we’ll talk you through the next steps.

Why is my canopy dripping grease?

Grease that builds up inside the canopy has to go somewhere. When the gutters fill, it overflows onto the range, often mixed with condensation. Cleaning removes the cause.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.

Canopy cleaning around River

Sea air reaches River, which sits within about 2 miles of the coast. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 22 pubs and bars and about 3 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in and around River, up to about a mile and a half out. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Kitchens in River get their food hygiene inspections from Dover council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

A hospital like Buckland Hospital, about 1 mile south-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. For schools such as River Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Commuter trade near Kearsney station can mean long cooking hours, and long hours put a kitchen into BESA’s more frequent cleaning bands.

How we price canopy cleaning

The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:

  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • A single visit or a regular plan

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you are unsure, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Asking for a quote

You do not need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Your last certificate, test record or report

We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To start, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

When something else is needed

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
  • Filters that no longer seal in the housing
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)

If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think.
