Need canopy cleaning in Platt?

Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Platt

The canopy is where the extract system breathes in. If it’s coated in grease, everything downstream gets more of it. Our diagnosis starts there, and the cure is a thorough clean of the hood, the plenum and the filter housing. If you’re dealing with a sticky, discoloured canopy and condensation and grease dripping together, we can help, from baffle filters, grease gutters and wall canopies onwards.

In a village or hamlet like Platt, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

How it works

Your trading hours come first. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that is an evening, overnight or a weekend. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the job takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Platt and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
  2. We protect everything below once it has cooled.
  3. Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
  4. Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
  5. You get pictures of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.

Platt: your questions answered

Which fire service covers Platt?

Fire safety enforcement in Platt is handled by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Do you work overnight in Platt?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. That way a site in Platt does not have to lose a day’s trading. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Which canopies and hoods do you clean?

Single hoods, long wall canopies and island canopies alike. The survey tells us how best to clean yours, from photos or a visit.

What does TR19 mean?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked and expects a risk-based approach.

Who is the responsible person?

The law calls them the responsible person. That is generally the employer or the person in control of the premises, and where several people have control, each can have duties. Your lease and fire risk assessment should make it clear.

Is the inside of the hood cleaned?

We clean the canopy inside and out, including the seams, troughs and gutters. The plenum and filter housing behind the filters are cleaned too.

Does the law say we must follow TR19?

No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19® is the recognised way to show grease is under control.

What does canopy cleaning cost?

We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. You get a fixed price before we start.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.

What canopy cleaning can’t fix

Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:

  • A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that’s a design question)
  • A dirty extract fan further along the system
  • Electrical faults in the canopy

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Grease gutters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Baffle filters
  • Wall canopies
  • Island canopies
  • Canopy light fittings

Leave it or put it right?

Getting the canopy cleaned in Platt now saves a bigger job later. The work takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits, out of hours so service carries on. Left alone, grease keeps moving into the plenum and duct. In a place like Platt, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you are not sure what’s needed, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email for straight advice and a fixed quote.

Grease, kitchens and Platt

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 11 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 7 sandwich bars and takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central Platt. Any of those kitchens with a canopy has a hood that needs cleaning inside and out. In Platt, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Tonbridge and Malling council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. Kent Fire and Rescue Service covers Platt. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Mary, or anywhere in Platt, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. If you run a café or takeaway near Borough Green & Wrotham station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.

Platt is about 6 miles east of Sevenoaks, in Kent. Platt gets the same approach as every site we work on: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where needed and a written report with pictures. Across Kent, we cover 922 places, Platt among them. You can also see our page for Maidstone, about 9 miles away.

Work in TN15 follows the same survey, fixed quote and written report as everywhere else we cover. If you need canopy cleaning at premises on St Mary's Close, Grange Road and Platt Common or a nearby road, our technicians can take on the work. Other places close to Platt include Comp (1 mile south-east), Borough Green (1 mile west), Crouch (1 mile south-west), Wrotham Heath (1 mile north-east) and Basted (1 mile south-west). Within a short drive, we also cover Maidstone (9 miles east), Dartford (12 miles north-west), Sevenoaks (6 miles west), Royal Tunbridge Wells (11 miles south), Gravesend (10 miles north) and Tonbridge (7 miles south).

Around Platt

We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Wrotham School, The Blue Anchor pub and Wrotham School, among other places. For rail, the closest station is Borough Green & Wrotham station, roughly 0.9 miles west. Other landmarks nearby include Ightham Court (1.8 miles west) and Beechin Wood Archery Museum (within half a mile south-east).

Aftercare tips

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:

  • Never run the range with a filter out
  • Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
  • Keep grease cups and drawers emptied
  • Run the extract the whole time you are cooking

The report gives a recommended next clean date. It reflects how long the kitchen cooks and how much grease we removed, in line with BESA guidance.

Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It does not reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.

Common problems we fix in Platt

Because the plenum sits behind the filters, it’s easy to forget. Daily cleaning reaches the canopy face but rarely gets further, leaving the plenum and housing to collect grease between professional cleans.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
  • A sticky, discoloured canopy
  • A filter housing caked in grease
  • Drips from the canopy onto the range

For schools such as Platt Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Our hiring checklist

For landlords and multi-site operators

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We’re happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
