Canopy cleaning in Normandy

Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Normandy

Canopy cleans are done out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Cooking equipment is turned off and cooled, then covered so the kitchen is ready when we go. If you are dealing with fat running down the front of the hood and a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away, we can put it right, from plenum chambers, grease gutters and wall canopies onwards.

Work in a small place like Normandy starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with pictures of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

Normandy kitchens: local notes

Normandy sits within the area of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. In Normandy, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Guildford council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

Where a hall near Church of St Mark, or anywhere in Normandy, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Wyke Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Normandy is about 4 miles east of Aldershot, in Surrey. Sites in Normandy get the same service as everywhere we cover: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where necessary and a written report with pictures. Our area takes in 395 places across Surrey, from busy centres to quieter spots.

Postcode districts we cover here for canopy cleaning: GU3. Canopy cleaning is available to premises on Manor Farm Close, Guildford Road and Milton Close and nearby roads. Close by, we work in Willey Green (1 mile east), Flexford (1 mile south), Christmas Pie (1 mile south), Wyke (1 mile west) and Wanborough (2 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover Guildford (4 miles east), Woking (6 miles north-east), Camberley (6 miles north-west), Farnham (6 miles south-west), Egham (13 miles north-east) and Walton-on-Thames (14 miles north-east).

Do you need canopy cleaning in Normandy?

Most canopies have troughs or channels that catch running grease. If they’re not emptied, they fill and overflow, so fat ends up running down the front of the hood.

Look out for these warning signs:

  • Condensation and grease dripping together
  • A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
  • Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
  • Filters that clog soon after cleaning

If you cook for passing trade around Wanborough station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.

Questions to ask before you book

For landlords and multi-site operators

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements and we will come back with a fixed quote.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

How the job changes from site to site

Wall canopies

The back of a wall canopy is hard to reach and easy to miss. With the filters out we can get to it and degrease it properly.

Island canopies

Everything about an island canopy is on show so a clean, even finish matters. We degrease it thoroughly and photograph the result.

How the visit works

Every visit runs to the same pattern: sheeting and protection first, isolate whatever needs isolating, do the work, tidy up and leave you the report. The visit itself takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to Normandy run smoothly.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
  4. Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

Getting a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Why act early in Normandy

A blocked plenum and clogged filters cut the airflow at the canopy. Smoke and heat hang around the cooking line, and the fan works harder for less. Cleaning restores the path the air should take. Somewhere as small as Normandy, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form for straight advice and a fixed quote.

Why Normandy businesses choose us

  • A written report with photos after every visit
  • One contact for all your sites in London and the South East
  • Work around your opening hours, with 24/7 emergency cover

Read our cost guide or how to check a contractor.

Between visits

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. A few tips:

  • Leave the extract running until cooking stops
  • Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
  • Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
  • Check all filters are fitted before service

Keep the photo report with your maintenance log where an inspector can see it. Before and after pictures speak for themselves.

Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It will not replace a professional clean, but it slows the build-up you can see.

Questions from Normandy

Can you work in Normandy outside opening hours?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. It means the site in Normandy keeps running as normal. When you call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, mention when the site is quiet.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Normandy?

That is Guildford council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Normandy. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Does a canopy clean meet TR19?

On its own, a canopy clean is a useful extra rather than a full TR19 clean. Your report lists exactly what was cleaned so nobody mistakes it for a full system clean.

What kinds of canopies do you clean?

Most commercial kitchen canopies, from one small hood to a long run of canopies. We work out the approach when we survey, from pictures or a visit.

Why is my canopy dripping grease?

A canopy only holds so much grease. When the gutters fill, it overflows onto the range, often mixed with condensation. A thorough clean stops it.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes, every time. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.

What happens to the filters during the clean?

They’re taken out, cleaned and refitted. We check each one seats properly, because gaps let grease through.

How long is a canopy clean?

It takes a few hours for most canopies. We’ll confirm how long when we quote.

What canopy cleaning can’t fix

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
  • Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)

If you are not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will give you a straight answer.
