Canopy cleaning in Murcott, done properly
We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Typical jobs include poor capture at the hood and drips from the canopy onto the range, across baffle filters, island canopies and grease gutters.
In a village or hamlet like Murcott, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
The report is your system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

For landlords and multi-site operators
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with pictures.
Your questions about canopy cleaning in Murcott
Do you work overnight in Murcott?
Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. The site is handed back ready to open. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.
Which fire authority looks after Murcott?
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Murcott. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Why does grease run off the canopy edge?
Grease that builds up inside the canopy has to go somewhere. When the gutters fill, it overflows onto the range, often mixed with condensation. A thorough clean stops it.
What happens to the filters during the clean?
We remove the filters to reach the plenum, and they’re cleaned before going back in. We’ll tell you if any need replacing.
Is Murcott in your area?
Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of South East England, Murcott included.
Do we lose a day’s trading?
Not typically. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Larger jobs can be phased over several visits so parts stay in use.
Is the inside of the hood cleaned?
All of it: the outer surfaces, the inner skin, the seams and the troughs. We also remove the filters and clean the plenum and housing behind them because that’s often the dirtiest part.
How do you protect the area?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before any work starts, and waste is contained as we go. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.
Kitchen extracts in Murcott
The fire and rescue service for Murcott is Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Murcott, about 51 miles from central London, is within our usual area. A survey and a fixed quote come first, then the visit at a time that suits you.
If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Boarstall Tower is about 2.7 miles east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Bicester Community Hospital (about 4.1 miles north), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
Murcott is about 4 miles south of Bicester, in Oxfordshire. We provide canopy cleaning for businesses, landlords and public buildings in Murcott and the rest of Oxfordshire. We cover 443 places across Oxfordshire, large and small. Our Oxford page covers sites nearby (7 miles or so).

When it’s something else
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)
- Bent or broken filters
- A light fitting that doesn’t work
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly.

What happens on the day
We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. Visits to a village like Murcott are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.
- The canopy is checked from photos or on a visit.
- Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
- With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
- Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
- Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

How we price canopy cleaning
Every site gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- The number of sites or systems
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before any work starts.
Asking for a quote
We can often survey from photos. The most useful are:
- Any previous report or certificate
- A few general shots of the system
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Why deal with it now?
Grease on the canopy is sitting just above the heat source. Flames from the range can ignite it and be pulled further into the system, where a fire is much harder to stop. A clean canopy takes that fuel away. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.
Several systems or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

How the job changes from site to site
School and staff canteen kitchens
A canteen canopy may cook fewer hours, but it still collects grease. BESA guidance still sets a minimum interval for the whole system, and the canopy is part of it.
Island canopies
Island canopies often have filters on two sides. Both sides are taken apart and cleaned.
Looking after it afterwards
No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. A few tips:
- Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
- Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
- Keep the fan on through service
- Wipe the canopy down at close every day
After the clean you get a photo report showing the canopy, plenum and housing before and after. It notes what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, so the record is honest and complete.
Don’t let canopy gutters fill to the brim. Most canopy drips start with a full trough, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.
