Canopy cleaning in Lydden

About our canopy cleaning in Lydden

Dripping edges and a sticky hood are the first things a visitor notices. Under the surface, the plenum behind the filters is normally in a worse state. Canopy cleaning deals with both, so the hood looks right and works properly. Common call-outs are for a sticky, discoloured canopy and condensation and grease dripping together, across grease gutters, canopy light fittings and baffle filters.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

The process

We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that is an evening, overnight or a weekend. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Lydden before we set off.

  1. We look at the canopy first, from pictures or on a visit.
  2. The range is turned off and allowed to cool before we cover it.
  3. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
  4. The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
  5. Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and pictures are taken.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Tell us where we can park and unload

Ask for a quote

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

Earlier is better, especially for out-of-hours work. Quotes normally come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

Why it’s worth doing now in Lydden

For a kitchen in Lydden, a canopy that looks greasy can colour a whole inspection. Keeping it clean shows the rest of the kitchen is being looked after and keeping it that way is easier than catching up. In a small place like Lydden, a system that fails can take a site out of use.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Why us?

  • Photo reports with every job
  • Ventilation hygiene specialists since 2009
  • Full insurance on every job
  • CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001

See our cost guide or how to check a contractor.

Looking after it afterwards

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Keep grease cups and drawers emptied
  • Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
  • Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
  • Check all filters are fitted before service

A before and after photo report follows the clean. The report lists what was cleaned and any part we couldn’t get to, so the record is honest and complete.

The best thing a kitchen can do for its canopy is keep the filters clean. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and never cook with one missing. Less grease gets into the plenum as a result.

Grease, kitchens and Lydden

Food Standards Agency records include about 3 pubs and bars within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Lydden. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. The fire and rescue service for Lydden is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Food hygiene inspections in Lydden are the job of Dover council’s environmental health team. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Mary Church of St Mary Virgin, or anywhere in Lydden, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Lydden Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

What affects the quote in Lydden

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

Helping us quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:

  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

How the job changes from site to site

Wall canopies

At the back of the canopy, behind the filters, grease builds up unseen. We remove the filters to reach it and scrape it clean.

Island canopies

The underside of an island canopy is in full view, so the finish matters. We degrease it thoroughly and photograph the result.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.

Do you need canopy cleaning in Lydden?

The canopy takes the hottest, wettest air in the kitchen. Grease from the vapour lands on the canopy’s inner surfaces, its joints and its filters before what gets through reaches the plenum.

The symptoms we’re asked about most include:

  • Greasy streaks across the canopy
  • Fat running down the front of the hood
  • An EHO comment about the canopy
  • Grease filters blocking between washes

Healthcare kitchens cannot easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Lydden is Buckland Hospital, about 3.1 miles south-east.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • Whether the price is fixed
  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
