About our canopy cleaning in Lovedean
Every canopy we clean in Lovedean gets the same treatment: we remove the filters, clean the plenum and housing, then degrease the canopy shell. You get pictures of the canopy before and after. If you’re dealing with grease filters blocking between washes and overflowing grease troughs and gutters, we can put it right.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
Every visit ends with a written report and photos, so there’s a dated record of the work. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Keeping the system healthy
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Run the extract the whole time you’re cooking
- Tell us when the canopy starts to drip
- Empty the grease troughs before they fill
- Give the canopy a wipe after service
A before and after photo report follows the clean. The report lists what was cleaned and any part we couldn’t get to, so the record is honest and complete.
Tell us if the canopy starts dripping or the filters clog sooner than usual. It can mean the cooking has changed or the interval is too long, which a grease thickness test can confirm.
The process
Each visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, isolate whatever needs isolating, do the work, clear away and leave you the report. The visit itself takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Lovedean before we set off.
- We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
- Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
- With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
- The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
- Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.
Before we arrive
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
How to get a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Related advice
How we price canopy cleaning
The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- The number of sites or systems
- The size of the system
- What state the system is in
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.
What to send for a quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- The postcode and the type of business
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- A few general shots of the system
To get a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We normally come back within one working day.
Common questions in Lovedean
Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Lovedean in the summer holidays?
Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. The FSA’s register shows about 2 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Lovedean. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
Can you come to Lovedean after we close?
Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Lovedean needn’t be disturbed. Just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with your opening times and we will plan around them.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
All kinds of commercial and public premises: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. We fit the work around how the site operates.
What should I send you?
Some photos and a quick description of the system, with the address and opening hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
By covering it before any work starts. We keep the work contained and leave the area clean.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes. Every job is surveyed first, from your pictures and details, or with a visit where necessary. A fixed quote follows.
Do you clean canopies in all kinds of kitchens?
Most commercial kitchen canopies, from one small hood to a long run of canopies. We work out the approach when we survey, from pictures or a visit.
What is TR19?
A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.
What the work involves, part by part
Grease troughs and gutters
Drips from the canopy edge often start in a full gutter. We clean it out so the grease has somewhere to go.
Island canopies
The underside of an island canopy is in full view so a clean, even finish matters. It’s degreased and photographed for your report.
For landlords and multi-site operators
If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
What staff can safely do
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.
What we’re called out for in Lovedean
Filters that are missing, damaged or badly seated leave gaps. More grease reaches the plenum and housing than they’re designed to take, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.
What we’re most often called out for:
- Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
- Grease filters blocking between washes
- An EHO comment about the canopy
- A filter housing caked in grease
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Havant War Memorial Hospital about 4.3 miles south-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 5 bars, pubs and nightclubs within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Lovedean. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Lovedean sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
