Canopy Cleaning in Kirtlington
Canopy cleaning for commercial sites in Kirtlington and across Oxfordshire. BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease.
- A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
- Greasy streaks across the canopy
- Filters that never seem to stay clean
Why it’s worth doing now in Kirtlington
When grease clogs the filters and plenum, the canopy can’t draw air as it should. The kitchen gets hotter and smokier while the fan strains. Cleaning restores the path the air should take. A fault that closes a site in a village like Kirtlington affects everyone who depends on it.
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re unsure, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Canopy cleaning in Kirtlington
We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you’re dealing with an EHO comment about the canopy and poor capture at the hood, we can help, from island canopies, grease gutters and canopy light fittings onwards.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

What we do, step by step
The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes a few hours for most canopies, and we clear up before we go. In a small place like Kirtlington, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.
- First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
- The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
- We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
Ask for a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.
Advice
What the work involves, part by part
Grease troughs and gutters
Where a trough drains into a grease cup, we empty and clean that as well, and we will show staff where it is.
School and staff canteen kitchens
A canteen canopy may cook fewer hours, but it still collects grease. BESA guidance still sets a minimum interval for the whole system, and the canopy is part of it.
What canopy cleaning looks like in Kirtlington
Kirtlington is covered by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. In Kirtlington, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Cherwell council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Kirtlington, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Kirtlington Church of England Primary School or anywhere near Kirtlington, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
Kirtlington is about 6 miles west of Bicester, in Oxfordshire. Whether your site is in the middle of Kirtlington or further out, canopy cleaning is available to all kinds of commercial premises, from a single unit to a large public building. Kirtlington is one of 443 places in Oxfordshire we cover for canopy cleaning. Oxford is in our area too, about 9 miles from Kirtlington.
We cover every part of OX5 for canopy cleaning and the streets around it. Canopy cleaning is available to premises on South Green, Church Lane and Hatch Way and the roads around them. If your site is just outside Kirtlington, we cover Bletchingdon (1 mile south), Enslow (1 mile south-west), Weston-on-the-Green (2 miles east), Hampton Poyle (3 miles south) and Weston Otmoor (3 miles east). We also work in nearby towns such as Oxford (9 miles south), Banbury (13 miles north), Bicester (6 miles east), Abingdon-on-Thames (14 miles south), Witney (11 miles south-west) and Carterton (15 miles south-west).

Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.
If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and give you a fixed quote.
Honest limits
Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:
- A canopy undersized for the equipment
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think before booking.

Kirtlington questions
Is Kirtlington within the area you cover?
Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Kirtlington is covered. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Who is the fire and rescue service for Kirtlington?
Kirtlington is in the area of Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
Does the law say we must follow TR19?
No. The law sets the duty; TR19® is the benchmark used to show it’s met. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person has to manage fire risk, and without records, many insurers may refuse or reduce a claim.
Are the filters cleaned too?
They’re taken out, cleaned and refitted. Each filter is checked for fit as it goes back, because gaps let grease through.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.
What does TR19 mean?
It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked, and it takes a risk-based approach.
How long does canopy cleaning take?
Size and build-up decide it. Typically it takes a few hours for most canopies.
What types of premises do you cover?
All kinds of commercial and public premises: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. We fit the work around how the site operates.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
When to call us in Kirtlington
The canopy takes the hottest, wettest air in the kitchen. Fat in that air settles on the inside of the hood, in its seams and on the filters, and the plenum behind them collects the rest.
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
- A plenum thick with grease behind the filters
- Grease filters blocking between washes
- Poor capture at the hood
Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Kirtlington is Bicester Community Hospital, about 5.3 miles east.
What your quote should include
- When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
- Whether a written report and pictures are included
- Proof of insurance
