Canopy cleaning in Kingston, done properly

If the canopy in Kingston is dripping, sticky or overdue a clean? A photo of the canopy and filters is a good start when you call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, and you’ll get a fixed price, usually within one working day. If you’re dealing with drips from the canopy onto the range and a sticky, discoloured canopy, we can put it right.

Kitchens around a place like Kingston are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Flat runs collect grease and need proper access to clean.

Think of the report as the system’s health record: a dated account with photos of everything we did. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, ready for your insurer.

What canopy cleaning cannot fix

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
  • Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
  • A canopy undersized for the equipment

If you’re not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Island canopies
  • Grease gutters
  • Baffle filters
  • Wall canopies
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Plenum chambers

Common problems we fix in Kingston

Filters that are missing, damaged or badly seated leave gaps. More grease reaches the plenum and housing than they’re designed to take, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
  • A hood coated in old grease
  • Fat running down the front of the hood
  • A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Miltoncross Academy or anywhere near Kingston, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Before you book anyone

  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
  • What paperwork you get at the end

Questions to ask before booking

Why it’s worth doing now in Kingston

A canopy clean in Kingston now stops the grease spreading further. It takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up, out of hours so service carries on. Put off, the grease simply moves further into the system. A planned visit to Kingston fits your hours; an emergency does not.

A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before any work starts.

What we do, step by step

Our technicians bring everything the work needs, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. On site, the work takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. A site near Kingston normally has room to park, so the questions are about access to the system and your hours.

  1. We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
  2. We protect everything below once it has cooled.
  3. Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
  4. We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
  5. You get photos of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.

How to prepare

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Advice

Grease, kitchens and Kingston

The coast is only about 1 mile from Kingston. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. Food Standards Agency data counts about 195 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 133 takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Kingston. Any of those kitchens with a canopy has a hood that needs cleaning inside and out. Food hygiene inspections in Kingston are the job of Portsmouth council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

A kitchen near Fratton station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval. Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Cuthbert or anywhere around Kingston, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

Kingston is about 1 mile south-east of Portsmouth, in Portsmouth. Wherever you are in the PO1 postcode area, we can carry out canopy cleaning at your premises. Our Portsmouth coverage runs to 19 places, Kingston among them.

Canopy cleaning in PO1, PO3 and PO4 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Canopy cleaning is available to premises on Renny Road, Clive Road and Union Road and nearby roads. With the A288 close by, Kingston is simple for us to get to at any hour. We also cover the places around Kingston: Fratton (1 mile south-west), Baffins (1 mile north-east), Copnor (1 mile north), Portsmouth (1 mile north-west) and Landport (1 mile west). Larger places within reach include Wymering (3 miles north), Paulsgrove (3 miles north), Cosham (3 miles north), Drayton (3 miles north) and Farlington (3 miles north-east).

Kingston questions

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Kingston in the summer holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. Around Kingston, the Food Standards Agency lists about 40 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us with the dates the site is empty.

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Kingston?

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Kingston. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

What happens to the waste?

It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on rather than letting it spread.

Which canopies and hoods do you clean?

We clean canopies in commercial kitchens of every kind. Whatever is cooked under it, the canopy is cleaned the same thorough way, with the equipment off and cool.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes, always. We diagnose before we treat: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need and the fixed quote is built on it.

How do you protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before any work starts, and waste is contained as we go. At the end, the area is cleaned down.

How much of the canopy do you clean?

Everything from the outer face to the plenum behind the filters. Grease troughs and filter channels are emptied and degreased as part of the job.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning

There’s no set price list, because no two systems are the same. The quote depends on:

  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • How big the system is

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Helping us quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Useful things to send:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • The site address and the type of premises

For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. You will normally have a quote within one working day.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Portsmouth. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Keep the fan on through service
  • Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
  • Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
  • Clean the baffle filters often

We point out anything we noticed while the canopy was apart: damaged filters, gaps around the housing or troughs that need emptying more often. We keep it to what matters.

Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It won’t replace a professional clean, but it slows the build-up you can see.
