What to send for a quote
What to send for a quote:
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Problems your staff have spotted
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price, before any work starts.
Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Jockey End
Every TR19® Grease clean includes the canopy, but some sites need the canopy done between full cleans. In that case, the report makes clear what was and wasn’t cleaned, so your records stay accurate. We’re often asked to deal with drips from the canopy onto the range and a canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection, across wall canopies, grease gutters and island canopies.
Somewhere as small as Jockey End, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.
We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.
Looking after it afterwards
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Never run the range with a filter out
- Wipe the canopy down at close every day
- Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
- Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
We recommend when the canopy, or the whole system, should next be cleaned. That date is based on your cooking hours and what we found, in line with BESA guidance.
Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. Less grease gets into the plenum as a result.
Signs you need canopy cleaning in Jockey End
Any canopy in Jockey End that’s used for cooking will gather grease in the end. That grease is fuel sitting right above the heat, which is why a flare-up near a dirty canopy is so dangerous.
These are the problems we see most often:
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
- Canopy gutters full of old fat
- Condensation running down the canopy
- Poor capture at the hood
Bursars and site managers at schools such as Gaddesden Row JMI School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

Part by part
Wall canopies
At the back of the canopy, behind the filters, grease builds up unseen. With the filters out we can get to it and scrape it clean.
Island canopies
With filters on more than one side, an island canopy has more plenum to clean. Both sides are taken apart and cleaned.
Your questions about canopy cleaning in Jockey End
Do you cover smaller places like Jockey End?
Yes, Jockey End is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Jockey End?

When do you clean the canopy?
We clean when the kitchen is closed: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Equipment under the canopy needs to be off and cool.
Are you accredited?
Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.
How far ahead should we book?
That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.
What types of premises do you cover?
Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.
What’s TR19?
It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked, and it takes a risk-based approach.
What do you need from me for a quote?
A short description and a few photos, with the address and opening hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.
How it works
There are three stages on the day: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. The middle part takes longest, and that takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Somewhere like Jockey End, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.
- Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
- Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
- Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
- Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
- You get pictures of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.
How to prepare
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Clear loose items from the work area

What canopy cleaning can’t fix
To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
- Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
