Iden Green kitchens: local notes
About 42 miles out from central London, Iden Green is part of the South East area we work across. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site. Environmental health officers from Tunbridge Wells council inspect food businesses in Iden Green. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
Where a hall near Church of St George, or anywhere in Iden Green, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Benenden Hospital about 2.8 miles north-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Great Dixter is about 4.2 miles south), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

How it works
We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before any work starts, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Iden Green and turn up when the site is quiet.
- We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
- Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
- With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
- The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
- Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.
Before we arrive
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
Getting a quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price, before any work starts.

Different parts, different methods
Island canopies
The underside of an island canopy is in full view, so the finish matters. We degrease it thoroughly and photograph the result.
School and staff canteen kitchens
In a school or workplace canteen, the canopy is often the only part of the extract staff ever see. The canopy and plenum are both cleaned, so what’s out of sight is dealt with too.
Aftercare tips
Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:
- Keep the fan on through service
- Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
- Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
- Check filters aren’t leaving gaps
After the clean you get a photo report showing the canopy, plenum and housing before and after. The report lists what was cleaned and any part we couldn’t get to, so the record is honest and complete.
Run the extract for as long as anything is cooking. Turning the fan off early lets vapour settle on the hood.
What a clean won’t put right
In fairness, there are a few things this work will not fix:
- Bent or broken filters
- Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
- A light fitting that doesn’t work
If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think.

What else we do in Iden Green
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
Common questions in Iden Green
Which fire service covers Iden Green?
Iden Green is in the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
Which council inspects kitchens in Iden Green?
In Iden Green, it’s Tunbridge Wells council that carries out food hygiene inspections. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We’re fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we will propose a schedule with a fixed quote.
Will we have to shut during the visit?
Not normally. Visits are timed for when the area is closed, such as overnight or at a weekend, so the site can carry on as normal.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and we’ll quote them together.
What happens if you can’t reach some of it?
We record them on the report, with a note of where it is, and we explain what access is needed, for example new access panels.
