Canopy and hood cleaning in Danaway, Kent
For canopy cleaning in Danaway, one call is all it takes: survey, fixed quote, work and sign-off. CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, ISO 9001 and fully insured.
- A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
- Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
Canopy cleaning in Danaway
Of the whole extract system, the canopy is the bit on show. It’s also the first place cooking vapour meets, so grease gathers on its inner skin, seams and gutters. We clean it inside and out, along with the plenum and filter housing behind it. The work covers grease gutters, baffle filters and island canopies, and common reasons people get in touch are canopy gutters full of old fat and a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away.
Somewhere as small as Danaway, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning
The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- The times the site is available
- What state the system is in
- Site rules, permits and inductions
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.
Helping us quote
When you contact us, these details help:
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- The postcode and the type of business
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before any work starts.
Questions from Danaway
Is Danaway within the area you cover?
Yes. Danaway is within the area we cover across London and the South East. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.
Which council inspects kitchens in Danaway?
That is Swale council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Danaway. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.
What kinds of canopies do you clean?
Wall canopies, island canopies and single hoods over individual appliances. The method is the same: filters out, plenum and housing cleaned, canopy degreased inside and out.
How long will it take to clean the canopy?
Allow an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. We’ll confirm how long when we quote.
How much notice do you need?
For planned work, earlier is better, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, set at the interval the system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, along with a few photos and any previous report.
When something else is needed
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- A light fitting that doesn’t work
- Bent or broken filters
- A hood that does not cover the cooking line
If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Why deal with it now?
Fresh grease comes off far more easily than old. Heat from the range bakes canopy grease into a hard, dark layer, so the longer it’s left, the longer the clean takes. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re unsure, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

What we do, step by step
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. In a small place like Danaway, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.
- The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
- Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
- With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
- Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
- We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.
Before we arrive
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Clear the space around the work

Advice
Canopy cleaning in Danaway: the local picture
The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 6 pubs, bars and clubs in Danaway and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Fire safety in Danaway falls to Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Kitchens in Danaway get their food hygiene inspections from Swale council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.
School kitchens, at schools like Borden Church of England Primary School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Peter and St Paul or elsewhere in Danaway, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Around Danaway
In Danaway, that means kitchens and buildings near Westlands School and Plough & Harrow pub and the streets around them. The closest station to Danaway is Newington station, roughly 1.2 miles north of the centre. Well-known places in the area include Bayford Court (3 miles east) and Court Hall Museum (2.7 miles east). For landlords and multi-site operators
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Kent. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.
Different parts, different methods
School and staff canteen kitchens
A canteen canopy may cook fewer hours, but it still collects grease. BESA guidance still sets a minimum interval for the whole system, and the canopy is part of it.
Wall canopies
Long wall canopies often have several filter banks. We work along the canopy section by section, with photos for each.
Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Flag any change in how the canopy behaves
- Check all filters are fitted before service
- Keep the fan on through service
- Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
We recommend when the canopy, or the whole system, should next be cleaned. That date is based on your cooking hours and what we found, in line with BESA guidance.
Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and never cook with one missing. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.
