Canopy cleaning for sites in Bitterne Park

About our canopy cleaning in Bitterne Park

Canopy cleans are done out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. The equipment underneath is switched off, left to cool and sheeted, and the kitchen is left ready for the next service. If you have an EHO comment about the canopy and grease dripping from the canopy edge, we can put it right, from baffle filters, plenum chambers and wall canopies onwards.

In a smaller place like Bitterne Park, many kitchens sit in older buildings or later extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

FAQs for Bitterne Park

Does being near the coast affect canopy cleaning in Bitterne Park?

It can, as Bitterne Park is within about 3 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on metal. Rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings are checked for corrosion as well as grease.

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Bitterne Park during the holidays?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. There are about 35 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Bitterne Park. Tell us your holiday dates and we will book the visit for when the site is empty.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.

What do you do to protect the area?

Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and a few photos, with the address and opening hours. If we need more, we will ask.

Are you accredited?

We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.

Can you clean the canopy outside our opening hours?

Out-of-hours cleans are how we work, at night, early in the morning or at weekends. We leave it clean and ready for the next service.

What we do, step by step

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Evenings, weekends or a closed day all work for a site in a place like Bitterne Park.

  1. The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Preparing for the visit

Advice

What staff can safely do

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

How we price canopy cleaning

The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:

  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The number of sites or systems
  • The times the site is available
  • How easy every part is to reach

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before we start.

What we need to know

We can often survey from photos. Try to include:

  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. You’ll typically have a quote within one working day.

What happens if it’s left?

Baked-on grease gets harder to shift the longer it stays. Over months, the heat hardens it into a stubborn coating, so the longer it’s left, the longer the clean takes. When a site near Bitterne Park shuts unexpectedly, the people who rely on it notice at once.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Grease, kitchens and Bitterne Park

At about 3 miles from the coast, Bitterne Park is close enough for sea air to matter. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. The Food Standards Agency lists about 49 pubs and bars and about 5 hotels and guest houses as registered food businesses in Bitterne Park and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. In Bitterne Park, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Southampton council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

A hospital like Royal South Hants Hospital, about 1.3 miles south-west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. If you cook for passing trade around Bitterne station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.

Bitterne Park is about 1 mile east of Southampton, in Southampton. Sites in Bitterne Park get the same service as everywhere we cover: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. 40 places in Southampton are on our list, large and small.

Work in SO18, SO17 and SO19 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Canopy cleaning is available to premises on Neva Road, Avon Road and Bond Road and nearby roads. We also cover Midanbury (1 mile north-east), Bitterne Manor (1 mile south-west), St Denys (1 mile west), Townhill Park (1 mile north-east) and Bitterne (1 mile south-east). Honest limits

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • A hood that does not cover the cooking line
  • Electrical faults in the canopy
  • Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we work on in Bitterne Park

  • Baffle filters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Wall canopies
  • Grease gutters
  • Island canopies
  • Canopy light fittings

Between visits

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Empty the grease troughs before they fill
  • Never run the range with a filter out
  • Keep the fan on through service
  • Make sure filters sit tight in the housing

Where the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If the job covers only the canopy, the paperwork reflects that.

Tell us if the canopy starts dripping or the filters clog sooner than usual. More drips or quicker clogging often mean the cleaning interval needs looking at, which a grease thickness test can confirm.

Common problems we fix in Bitterne Park

A canopy in Bitterne Park picks up grease at much the same rate as one anywhere else with the same cooking: the hours and the type of cooking decide how fast. Frying and grilling load a canopy far faster than steaming or boiling.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Fat running down the front of the hood
  • A plenum thick with grease behind the filters
  • Poor capture at the hood
  • A hood coated in old grease

For schools such as St Mary's Independent School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
