About our canopy cleaning in Bilting
A greasy canopy tells an inspector a lot before they’ve opened anything. What is not seen, behind the filters, tends to be worse. Canopy cleaning deals with both, so the hood looks right and works properly. The work covers baffle filters, wall canopies and canopy light fittings, and common reasons people get in touch are overflowing grease troughs and gutters and smoke hanging around the canopy during service.
Somewhere as small as Bilting, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.
We have been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Leave it or put it right?
Leaving the canopy until the next full clean can mean months of build-up. In a busy kitchen, the canopy and plenum can need attention between TR19 cleans, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. A planned visit to Bilting is easier to arrange than an emergency callout.
The cost depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

Other services in Bilting
Looking after it afterwards
No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:
- Empty the grease troughs before they fill
- Keep the fan on through service
- Don’t scrape the canopy with metal tools
- Flag any change in how the canopy behaves
A full system clean comes with a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Where only the canopy is done, the report says so clearly.
A change in how the canopy behaves is worth reporting. It can mean the cooking has changed or the interval is too long, which a grease thickness test can confirm.
Bilting kitchens: local notes
Bilting, about 49 miles from central London, is within our usual area. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours. Food hygiene inspections in Bilting are the job of Ashford council’s environmental health team. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.
Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; William Harvey Hospital is the nearest hospital to Bilting, about 4.8 miles south. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Lawrence or elsewhere in Bilting, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
Bilting is about 6 miles north-east of Ashford, in Kent. Bilting gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. Our Kent coverage runs to 922 places, Bilting among them. Our Maidstone page covers sites nearby, about 18 miles away.
All of TN25 is covered for canopy cleaning, from busy streets to back roads. You will find streets such as Canterbury Road and Bilting Lane, all of which we cover for canopy cleaning. Neighbouring places we cover for canopy cleaning include Godmersham (1 mile north-east), Mountain Street (2 miles north), Molash (2 miles north-west), Chilham (3 miles north-east) and Shottenden (3 miles north). Larger places within reach include Ashford (6 miles south-west), Canterbury (8 miles north-east), Sittingbourne (13 miles north-west), Folkestone (13 miles south-east), Whitstable (11 miles north) and Faversham (8 miles north).
What’s near Bilting
We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around Godmersham Park. The closest station to Bilting is Wye station, about 1.7 miles south of the centre. Well-known places in the area include Tower keep castle at Chilham (2.5 miles north) and William Harvey Hospital (4.8 miles south).
What we’re called out for in Bilting
The plenum is hidden behind the filters, so nobody sees it build up. Daily cleaning reaches the canopy face but rarely gets further, leaving the plenum and housing to collect grease between professional cleans.
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- Grease filters blocking between washes
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
- A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
- An EHO comment about the canopy
Bursars and site managers at schools such as Wye School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

- How VAT is shown on the quote
- Whether they’re fully insured
How it works
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. Visits to a village like Bilting are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.
- The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
- Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
- With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
- The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
- Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.
Preparing for the visit
- Move anything stored near the system
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
Getting a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

What a clean won’t put right

- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
- Electrical faults in the canopy

Bilting questions
Who is the fire and rescue service for Bilting?
That is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Who inspects food businesses in Bilting?
Kitchens in Bilting are inspected by Ashford council’s environmental health officers. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.
What should I send you?
The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, along with a few pictures and any previous report.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together on one programme. Every site has its own report.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.
Does a canopy clean meet TR19?
TR19® Grease is about the whole extract, from canopy to discharge. A canopy clean helps between full cleans, but the ducts and fan still need doing, and the report will say what was covered.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes, every time. We diagnose before we treat: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it and the fixed quote is built on it.
Are you accredited?
BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We have been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.
How the job changes from site to site
Island canopies
The underside of an island canopy is in full view, so the finish matters. We degrease it thoroughly and photograph the result.
Pub and hotel kitchens
Staff in pub and hotel kitchens work under the canopy all day, so drips and smells soon become a daily nuisance. A thorough clean puts that right.
Managing agents and facilities teams in Bilting
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
