Canopy cleaning in Arundel

The canopy is where the extract system breathes in. If it’s coated in grease, everything downstream gets more of it. Our diagnosis starts there, and the treatment is a thorough degrease of the hood, plenum and housing. If you are dealing with poor capture at the hood and a greasy hood noticed by an inspector, we can put it right.

In a smaller place like Arundel, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. A kitchen that cooks fewer hours still builds up grease, so cleaning is planned around how much it cooks and what the readings show.

Each visit ends with a written report and pictures, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
  • Keep grease cups and drawers emptied
  • Never run the range with a filter out
  • Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle

The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Filters are back in place and seated properly, and the kitchen is ready to cook.

Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.

How we price canopy cleaning

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:

  • The condition of the system
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Parking and loading at the site

The cost depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Asking for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • The postcode and the type of business

If you need canopy cleaning in Arundel, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us. Tell us what kind of premises it is and when it’s open, plus photos or the previous report if they’re to hand. A fixed quote typically follows within one working day.

What a clean won’t put right

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • A canopy undersized for the equipment
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
  • A dirty extract fan further along the system

If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will say what we think before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Baffle filters
  • Island canopies
  • Plenum chambers
  • Grease gutters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Wall canopies

Different parts, different methods

Grease troughs and gutters

Many canopies have troughs or gutters around the edge to catch running grease. We empty and degrease them, so they can do their job again.

School and staff canteen kitchens

Canteen staff see the canopy, not the duct behind it. The canopy and plenum are both cleaned, so what’s out of sight is dealt with too.

For landlords and multi-site operators

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

What canopy cleaning looks like in Arundel

Food Standards Agency data counts about 27 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 3 sandwich bars and takeaways in Arundel and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Arundel is covered by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. It’s Arun council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Arundel. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

For schools such as St Philip's Catholic Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. For kitchens close to Arundel station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Arundel is Arundel and District Hospital, about less than half a mile north-west.

Arundel questions

Can you work in Arundel outside opening hours?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. It means the site in Arundel keeps running as normal. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Which council inspects kitchens in Arundel?

In Arundel, it’s Arun council that carries out food hygiene inspections. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Which canopies and hoods do you clean?

Wall canopies, island canopies and single hoods over individual appliances. The method is the same: filters out, plenum and housing cleaned, canopy degreased inside and out.

Does a canopy clean meet TR19?

A canopy-only clean is possible, but it is not a full TR19 clean. For TR19, the whole system needs cleaning, at intervals set by BESA guidance.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, any time. If something urgent happens, like a fan failing or damage after a fire, call our 24/7 line, and we’ll advise on what to do next.

What happens to the filters during the clean?

They’re taken out, cleaned and refitted. We check each one seats properly, because gaps let grease through.

How much notice should we give?

Earlier is better, particularly for night and weekend visits. Quotes typically come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

What paperwork do I get after a canopy clean?

You get a photo report with before and after photos. Full system cleans also come with a TR19 certificate.

How it works

We’re used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Evenings, weekends or a closed day all work for a site in a place like Arundel.

  1. Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
  2. Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
  3. Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
  4. Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
  5. The canopy is signed off with before and after pictures and a next clean date.

How to prepare

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need

Advice

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.
