AHU cleaning near Hampton Poyle

AHU cleaning in Hampton Poyle

Think of an AHU clean as a full check-up for the ventilation. Every section is opened, cleaned and photographed, so you can see the unit’s condition for yourself. If you are dealing with air handling units with blocked filters and stale or musty smells from the ventilation, we can help, from heating and cooling coils, internal panels and filter sections onwards.

In a village or hamlet like Hampton Poyle, few buildings have mechanical ventilation, but those that do need it inspected and cleaned like any other.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

How the job changes from site to site

Rooftop and plant room units

Smaller units in ceiling voids are part of the work as well. The space underneath is protected with sheeting first.

Heating and cooling coils

Dirt on a coil slows the air and makes it harder for the coil to heat or cool. A clean gets air moving through the coil properly again.

Aftercare tips

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Keep filter changes on time and recorded
  • Note any water around the unit or leaks below it
  • Plan the next inspection before the last report gets filed away
  • Keep the area around the fresh air intake clear

The ducts served by the unit may need attention too. Cleaning the unit and ducts together gives the best result, and we can quote for both.

Do not let leaves, litter or stored materials build up near the fresh air intake. Anything around the intake is likely to be drawn in.

When something else is needed

Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Ductwork downstream of the unit, which is a separate clean
  • Breakdowns that need a mechanical engineer
  • Airflow problems caused by the system’s design

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will say what we think.

What the work covers

  • Filter sections
  • Heating and cooling coils
  • Supply and extract fans
  • Drain trays
  • Dampers and louvres
  • Internal panels

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Questions from Hampton Poyle

Do you work in villages like Hampton Poyle?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Can the work in Hampton Poyle be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. The work in Hampton Poyle can fit around your hours. Just call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.

Do you need to switch the unit off?

Yes, while the clean is under way. We can work evenings, overnight or at weekends so the building is not left without ventilation when it’s busy.

Can you quote from pictures?

Often, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Where we cannot see enough, we arrange a survey.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and the details are available on request.

How much notice should we give?

Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

Can you clean the ducts connected to the AHU?

Yes, the ductwork, grilles and diffusers the unit serves. We’ll tell you after the survey whether the ducts need it.

Will you repair the fan or motor?

Our AHU work is cleaning rather than mechanical repair. Any faults we notice are recorded so your maintenance contractor can deal with it.

How it works

There are three stages on the day: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, and that takes one overnight shift for many single units, with bigger plant phased. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Hampton Poyle before we set off.

  1. First the unit is surveyed, from photos or a visit, and the scope agreed.
  2. With your site team, the unit is switched off and isolated, then the area around it protected.
  3. Filters, coils, fan section and casing are cleaned in turn.
  4. We clean out the drain tray and make sure it drains.
  5. We close up the unit and send the certificate and before and after photos.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Find the previous report, if there is one

Advice

Common problems we fix in Hampton Poyle

No filter stops everything. What gets through settles on coils, fans and the inside of the casing, building up layer by layer.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • Fan sections that haven’t been cleaned in years
  • Plant that needs cleaning after a refit
  • Blocked condensate drains and slimy trays
  • Dirty coils holding back the airflow

Healthcare buildings such as Acland Hospital, about 5.2 miles south, depend on their ventilation; if you manage a surgery, clinic or care home near Hampton Poyle, yours matters too.

What to look for in a quote

  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • Proof of insurance
  • What hours they’ll be on site
  • Exactly which parts of the system are covered

Our hiring checklist

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We’ll take a look and give you a fixed quote.
