About our TR19 inspection in Weston-on-the-Green
A pre-clean survey is the diagnosis, and the clean is the treatment. We look at the system, take grease readings and photograph what we find, so the clean can be planned properly. If you are dealing with surveys needed before quoting a full clean and extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean, we can help.
In a village or hamlet like Weston-on-the-Green, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.

Weston-on-the-Green: your questions answered
Do you work in villages like Weston-on-the-Green?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Weston-on-the-Green included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Can you work in Weston-on-the-Green outside opening hours?
Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. That way a site in Weston-on-the-Green does not have to lose a day’s trading. Just call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with your opening times and we will plan around them.
Do you check other contractors’ cleans?
We visit after a clean, take readings at set points and photograph the system. The report flags anything missed.
What happens on a pre-clean survey?
The survey covers the whole system, grease readings and access to each section. From it, we plan the clean and quote a fixed price.
How long does grease testing take?
Typically, the inspection takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. The size of the system and the access make the difference.
Where does the waste go?
It leaves the site with us at the end of the visit. While we work, it’s kept contained so the area stays clean.
How do you protect the area?
With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. We keep the work contained and leave the area clean.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

The process
We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your photos. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, it takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. The timing of a visit to Weston-on-the-Green is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.
- First we look at the system’s cleaning history, if there is one.
- The layout is traced from the canopy to the discharge.
- We note where access panels are and where more are needed.
- Grease readings are taken and photos recorded.
- You get a report and a fixed quote for the clean.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
Getting a quote
There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
Advice
Different parts, different methods
Restaurants, pubs and hotels
BESA’s minimum for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day is a clean every 3 months, and readings show whether that is enough.
Extract fan and discharge
The extract fan and its housing collect grease too. They’re included in the readings and photos.
When it’s something else
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:
- Parts of the duct nobody can reach yet
- Fan breakdowns, which need a repair visit
- Heavy deposits found on test, which still need cleaning
Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will tell you honestly.
Parts of the system we cover
- Wet film thickness tests
- Post-clean checks
- Access surveys
- Pre-clean surveys
- Insurer audits
- Deposit thickness tests
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.
Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
Common problems we fix in Weston-on-the-Green
Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers look to TR19® as the benchmark. TR19® itself is not law, but the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and grease in the extract is part of that risk.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Kitchens taken over with no cleaning records
- Systems that need surveying before cleaning
- Confirming a clean reached the whole system
- Uncertainty over how often to clean
Healthcare kitchens cannot easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Weston-on-the-Green is Bicester Community Hospital, about 3.7 miles north-east.
What to look for in a quote
- What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
- Proof of accreditation you can verify
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
Multi-site and managed buildings
Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Oxfordshire. Work can be phased by floor, building or site around the people who use them.
Weston-on-the-Green kitchens: local notes
There are about 6 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Weston-on-the-Green, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. For any of them with a canopy, measuring grease is better than guessing when to clean. It’s Cherwell council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Weston-on-the-Green. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. Weston-on-the-Green sits within the area of Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.
Where a hall near Church of St Mary, or anywhere in Weston-on-the-Green, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Keeping the system healthy
So the system stays in good health:
- Store grease readings where your insurer can see them
- Clean or swap grease filters as often as the kitchen needs
- Keep the route to access panels clear
- Look out for grease drips round the canopy edge
After post-clean verification, file the results with the cleaning certificate. The pair gives a clear record of the clean and the check.
Keep filters clean and in place. Missing or damaged filters let grease straight into the plenum.
