TR19 inspection in Warningcamp

TR19 inspection in Warningcamp

BESA’s minimum cleaning frequencies depend on how long the kitchen cooks each day: every 3 months for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day, every 6 months for moderate use of 6 to 12 hours, and every 12 months for light use of 2 to 6 hours. Those are minimums, and grease readings help set the real interval. If you’re dealing with cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen and sites with gaps in their extract records, we can help, from access surveys, insurer audits and deposit thickness tests onwards.

In a village or hamlet like Warningcamp, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Warningcamp questions

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Warningcamp?

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Warningcamp. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Do you cover smaller places like Warningcamp?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

How long does a TR19 inspection take?

An inspection takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. Sites with several canopies take longer, and you can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line to book it in.

What is grease thickness testing?

WFTT and DTT are the two methods for measuring grease thickness, in microns. We take readings at set points from canopy to fan.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and you will get one fixed quote.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

Do we have to follow TR19 by law?

No, TR19® isn’t legislation. But the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk under the Fire Safety Order 2005, which in a kitchen includes grease in the extract. Many insurance policies also require TR19 adherence.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.

The process

When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the photos you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, the work takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to Warningcamp.

  1. The visit is arranged for when the kitchen isn’t busy.
  2. We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
  3. Grease thickness is measured at set points by WFTT or DTT.
  4. Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
  5. We send a report setting out the readings, photos and next steps.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

Getting a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Advice

Part by part

Extract fan and discharge

The discharge at the end of the system is checked as well, as grease can build up there too.

Vertical risers

Risers can be hard to get into. The survey shows exactly what access there is.

Kitchen extracts in Warningcamp

Look up Warningcamp on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 27 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 3 sandwich bars and takeaways in and around Warningcamp, up to about a mile and a half out. For any of them with a canopy, measuring grease is better than guessing when to clean. In Warningcamp, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Arun council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. The fire and rescue service for Warningcamp is West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Arundel and District Hospital (about 1.8 miles west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Ecclesden Manor is about 2.8 miles south-east), access may need planning.

Warningcamp is about 3 miles north of Littlehampton, in West Sussex. We carry out TR19 inspection for businesses, landlords and public buildings in Warningcamp and the rest of West Sussex. Our West Sussex coverage runs to 371 places, and Warningcamp is one of them. You can also see our page for Brighton, about 17 miles away.

TR19 inspection in BN18 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. TR19 inspection is available to premises on Blakehurst Lane and Clay Lane and the roads around them. Between visits

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Report grease dripping from the canopy
  • Mention new equipment or longer hours at the next test
  • Diary the next grease test and clean
  • Clean or swap grease filters as often as the kitchen needs

Keep the verification report next to the certificate it relates to. The pair gives a clear record of the clean and the check.

Test grease regularly instead of relying on the calendar. It shows if build-up is speeding up.

Do you need TR19 inspection in Warningcamp?

You cannot judge grease thickness by eye. A system can look clean at the filters and be heavily coated further in, which is why readings matter.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Insurers asking for TR19 evidence
  • Extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean
  • Kitchens taken over with no cleaning records
  • Sections of duct that cannot be reached

Term dates shape school work: for a school like The Littlehampton Academy, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

What your team can do, and what needs us

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

Why act early in Warningcamp

A pre-clean survey avoids surprises on the night. Access problems are spotted in advance rather than on the night, so the clean covers the whole system. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

How we price TR19 inspection

Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The times the site is available
  • Where the site is and how we reach it

You will not find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and we will talk you through it.

What to send for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • The postcode and the type of business

To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
