About our TR19 inspection in South Heath
Many insurers ask for proof that kitchen extract systems are cleaned and inspected to TR19®. Without it, a claim can be refused or reduced. A TR19 audit sets out the system’s condition, with readings and photos, for sites in South Heath and the rest of Essex. Common call-outs are for insurance renewals needing proof of TR19 cleaning and parts of the system left out of past cleans, on deposit thickness tests, access surveys and pre-clean surveys.
In a village or hamlet like South Heath, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.
It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Questions from South Heath
Do you cover smaller places like South Heath?
Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and South Heath is covered. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for South Heath?
It’s Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, which covers South Heath. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
What do you do to protect the area?
By covering it before any work starts. We keep the work contained and clean down when we finish.
Are you accredited?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.
How much does TR19 inspection cost?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. We fix the price before work begins.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and you will get one fixed quote.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
We never leave them off the paperwork. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. Every job is surveyed first, either from photos and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.

What we’re called out for in South Heath
Not every section of a kitchen extract is easy to get to, so those sections can be skipped time and again. An inspection of a system in South Heath shows where access panels are missing, so the gaps can be closed.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
- Sections of duct that cannot be reached
- Extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean
- Post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean
Thorpe Hall, about 4.2 miles east, is one of the historic houses near South Heath; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.
What your quote should include
- Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
- How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
- What paperwork you get at the end

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection
Every site gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- The scale of the work
- Whether several sites go on one quote
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos for straight advice and a fixed quote.
Helping us quote
A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We typically come back within one working day.
For landlords and multi-site operators
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so each one has its own record.
When something else is needed
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:
- Design faults in the extract system
- Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
- Heavy deposits found on test, which still need cleaning
If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think.
Where we work
- Deposit thickness tests
- Pre-clean surveys
- Access surveys
- Wet film thickness tests
- Post-clean checks
- Insurer audits
What we do, step by step
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that’s an evening, overnight or a weekend. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. If you can send photos, we can arrive in South Heath knowing what to expect.
- The visit is arranged for when the kitchen is not busy.
- We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
- Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
- Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
- The findings go into a report with readings, pictures and a recommended next clean.
Before we arrive
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
Getting a quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before work begins.
Related advice
Between visits
Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:
- Send TR19 audit reports to your insurer on request
- Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together
- Clean or swap grease filters as often as the kitchen needs
- Keep the route to access panels clear
The report recommends when the system should next be cleaned and tested, based on the readings and how the kitchen is used.
Keep certificates, reports and readings in one place so the history is easy to show.
