TR19 inspection for sites in Peters Village

TR19 inspection for kitchens and businesses in Peters Village

Many insurers ask for proof that kitchen extract systems are cleaned and inspected to TR19®. Without it, a claim can be refused or reduced. A TR19 audit sets out the system’s condition, with readings and pictures, for sites in Peters Village and the rest of Medway. The work covers post-clean checks, wet film thickness tests and insurer audits, and the jobs we see most are ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits and pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean.

Kitchens around a place like Peters Village are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with photos of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

What the work involves, part by part

Extract fan and discharge

Grease builds up on the fan blades and inside the housing. We check and test them as part of the inspection.

Canopy and plenum

The canopy itself is checked inside and out, and note where grease has gathered.

What a clean won’t put right

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Design faults in the extract system
  • Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
  • Hidden runs that need access panels first

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Kitchen extracts in Peters Village

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 10 bars, pubs and nightclubs within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Peters Village. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. In Peters Village, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Tonbridge and Malling council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. The fire and rescue service for Peters Village is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like St. Catherine's Hospital about 3.5 miles north-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Where a hall near St Mary's Church, or anywhere in Peters Village, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Peters Village: your questions answered

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Peters Village out of term?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. With about 9 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Peters Village, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Send us your term dates when you call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we’ll fit the work in.

Do you work at weekends in Peters Village?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. It means the site in Peters Village keeps running as normal. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. We always survey first, either from pictures and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Some pictures and a quick description of the system, with the address and opening hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.

What happens to the waste?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, including grease, debris and dirty water. We do not leave it behind.

What grease levels does TR19 allow?

Between cleans, the mean should stay at 200 microns or below, with 500 microns or more anywhere needing immediate spot cleaning.

When should we have our next grease test?

That varies with the kitchen’s daily use. BESA’s minimum cleaning intervals are every 3, 6 or 12 months for heavy, moderate and light use, and grease readings help set the real interval.

What we’re called out for in Peters Village

Some parts of a system are hard to reach, so those sections can be skipped time and again. A survey finds the sections that can’t be reached, so panels can be fitted.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
  • Post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean
  • Uncertainty over how often to clean
  • Sites with gaps in their extract records

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Halling Primary School or anywhere near Peters Village, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • What state the system is in
  • The times the site is available

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you are unsure, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Helping us quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow

Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and any previous report or certificate. Once you have those, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Aftercare tips

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Report grease dripping from the canopy
  • Never cook with filters missing
  • Clean grease off the canopy between professional cleans
  • Mention new equipment or longer hours at the next test

Any access problems we found are listed with a suggested fix. Fitting them before the next clean means the whole system gets done.

Keep certificates, reports and readings in one place so the history is easy to show.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a couple of hours for a typical kitchen extract system. Your opening hours decide when we come to Peters Village, not ours.

  1. First we book a time that won’t disrupt cooking.
  2. The system is checked from canopy to discharge.
  3. We take WFTT or DTT readings at set points along the system.
  4. Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
  5. The findings go into a report with readings, photos and a recommended next clean.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

Get a fixed quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
