TR19 inspection in Ley Hill

Think of a TR19 inspection as the diagnosis before the treatment. Readings, pictures and notes on access are gathered from end to end, so the clean can be planned properly. The work covers access surveys, pre-clean surveys and post-clean checks, and common reasons people get in touch are kitchens whose menu or hours have changed and missing TR19 certificates or history.

In a small place like Ley Hill, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

Think of the report as the system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal and sits alongside the report.

Ley Hill: your questions answered

Can you come to Ley Hill after we close?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. It means the site in Ley Hill keeps running as normal. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.

Can school kitchens in Ley Hill be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Around Ley Hill, the Food Standards Agency lists about 6 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Just ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your term dates and we will plan around them.

What does a pre-clean survey involve?

It’s a look at the whole extract before it’s cleaned, with readings and photos. We can work from pictures and details, or visit, as suits the job.

Can you quote from pictures?

Often, yes. With good photos, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.

How much notice should we give?

The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. We typically quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

What’s TR19?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

What is grease thickness testing?

The Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) and Deposit Thickness Test (DTT) measure how thick the grease is at a given point. Readings are taken at set points through the system.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.

For landlords and multi-site operators

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

What the work involves, part by part

Schools, hospitals and care homes

We fit testing around service times and school holidays so meals are not affected.

Canopy and plenum

Behind the filters, the plenum catches plenty of grease. Readings and pictures are taken in the plenum on every inspection.

What we’re called out for in Ley Hill

Not every section of a kitchen extract is easy to get to, so those sections can be skipped time and again. An inspection of a system in Ley Hill shows where access panels are missing, so panels can be fitted.

Clients normally contact us after spotting one of these:

  • Systems that need surveying before cleaning
  • Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
  • Insurance renewals needing proof of TR19 cleaning
  • Extracts that have never been grease tested

Church and community hall kitchens, near St George's Church or anywhere around Ley Hill, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

How the visit works

We’re used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Ley Hill and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. Post-clean verification is booked once the clean is done.
  2. The same access points are opened up.
  3. We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
  4. Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
  5. The results are reported, with anything missed flagged.

How to prepare

  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

How to get a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before any work starts.

Advice

What a clean will not put right

Not every problem is solved by TR19 inspection, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:

  • The grease itself, which needs a full or spot clean
  • Parts of the duct nobody can reach yet
  • The legal duty, which stays with the responsible person

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.
