TR19 inspection for sites in Hethe

TR19 inspection in Hethe

Insurance policies often require evidence of TR19® cleaning and inspection. Without it, a claim can be refused or reduced. A TR19 audit sets out the system’s condition, with readings and pictures, for sites in Hethe and the rest of Oxfordshire. If you are dealing with post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean and sites with gaps in their extract records, we can put it right.

Somewhere as small as Hethe, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

We’ve been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

Keeping the system healthy

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Keep canopy edges and gutters wiped down
  • Look out for grease drips round the canopy edge
  • Book the next test on the date in the report
  • Clean or swap grease filters as often as the kitchen needs

For an insurer audit, send them the report as it is, with readings, photos and any areas not accessible.

Test grease regularly instead of relying on the calendar. It shows if build-up is speeding up.

Your questions about TR19 inspection in Hethe

Can you come to Hethe after we close?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. It means the site in Hethe keeps running as normal. Let us know the hours you are closed and we will book within them.

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Hethe?

Fire safety enforcement in Hethe is handled by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

What types of premises do you cover?

Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.

What grease levels does TR19 allow?

TR19® Grease says the mean shouldn’t exceed 200 microns between cleans, and anywhere at 500 microns or more needs spot cleaning straight away.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. One number covers all your sites in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.

What is grease thickness testing?

WFTT and DTT are the two methods for measuring grease thickness, in microns. We take readings at set points from canopy to fan.

What happens if it’s left?

Sites in Hethe that have never measured grease can’t tell whether their cleaning interval suits the kitchen. Measured readings let a competent person set the interval. It’s simpler to plan the work at Hethe now than to arrange it in a hurry later.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

What we do, step by step

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Hethe before we set off.

  1. First we look at the system’s cleaning history, if there is one.
  2. We follow the extract from canopy to discharge.
  3. We note where access panels are and where more are needed.
  4. Grease readings are taken and pictures recorded.
  5. We report back with readings and a fixed quote.

How to prepare

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site

How the job changes from site to site

Restaurants, pubs and hotels

Heavy use under BESA guidance, 12 to 16 hours a day, means a clean at least every 3 months, and readings show whether that is enough.

Horizontal duct runs

Bends and long runs can hold heavy deposits, well away from where anyone looks.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Hethe

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.

Do you need TR19 inspection in Hethe?

Grease is fuel. Flames from the range can be pulled into the canopy and travel through the ducts to other parts of the building. Knowing how much there is lets you act before it becomes a hazard.

Look out for these warning signs:

  • Sites with gaps in their extract records
  • Extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean
  • Checking the result of a recent clean
  • Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Edmund and George, or anywhere in Hethe, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

What to look for in a quote

  • What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
  • What hours they’ll be on site

TR19 inspection in Hethe: the local picture

Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. Fire safety in Hethe falls to Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.
