TR19 inspections in Haylands
TR19 inspection across Haylands and nearby, booked around your opening hours and finished with a written report and photos.

- Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
- Confirming a clean reached the whole system
Multi-site and managed buildings
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
TR19 inspection in Haylands
Under TR19® Grease, the mean grease thickness should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Grease testing shows which side of those lines you’re on. The work covers insurer audits, post-clean checks and access surveys, and the jobs we see most are an insurer’s request for a TR19 audit and extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean.
In a smaller place like Haylands, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. Quieter kitchens still collect grease in the duct, just more slowly, so cleaning is planned around how much it cooks and what the readings show.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

How it works
We are used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. Around Haylands, access is usually simpler than in a town centre, though gates and roof access are worth mentioning.
- After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
- We open the access points used on the clean.
- We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
- We photograph each area to record how it was left.
- The results are reported, with anything missed flagged.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
How to get a quote
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your pictures and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before we start.
Advice
What your team can do, and what needs us
If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.
What the work involves, part by part
Extract fan and discharge
The discharge at the end of the system is checked as well, since grease reaches the very end of the system.
Restaurants, pubs and hotels
Kitchens that cook for long hours build up grease faster. Regular testing shows whether the cleaning interval keeps up.
When something else is needed
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- The legal duty, which stays with the responsible person
- Parts of the duct nobody can reach yet
- Removing the grease, which is a separate clean
If you’re not sure, just call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will give you a straight answer.

What we are called out for in Haylands
You cannot judge grease thickness by eye. A system can look clean at the filters and be heavily coated further in, which is why readings matter.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Surveys needed before quoting a full clean
- Uncertainty over how often to clean
- Heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts
- Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Haylands is Gosport War Memorial Hospital, about 5.3 miles north.
Before booking anyone
- When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
- Exactly which parts of the system are covered
- What records you will receive afterwards
- Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
Kitchen extracts in Haylands
The coast is only about 2 miles from Haylands. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. Food Standards Agency records include about 23 pubs and bars and about 8 hotels and guest houses within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Haylands. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Food hygiene inspections in Haylands are the job of Isle of Wight council’s environmental health team. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
Term dates shape school work: for a school like Haylands Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. If you run a café or takeaway near Ryde St Johns Road station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.
Haylands is about 1 mile south-west of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. Across the PO33 area, we can carry out TR19 inspection at your premises. Across the Isle of Wight, we cover 125 places, and Haylands is one of them. You can also see our page for Portsmouth, roughly 8 miles from Haylands.
We cover every part of the PO33 postcode area for TR19 inspection and the streets around it. That includes premises on Play Lane, Pell Lane and Upton Road and the roads around them. We also cover the places around Haylands: Upton (1 mile south-west), Ryde (1 mile north-east), Oakfield (1 mile east), Binstead (1 mile north-west) and Elmfield (1 mile east). Within a short drive, we also cover Newport (6 miles west), Cowes (6 miles north-west), Sandown (4 miles south), Shanklin (6 miles south), Ventnor (9 miles south) and East Cowes (5 miles north-west). If your site is somewhere remote, the visit takes a little more planning, so let us know when you get in touch.
Local landmarks in Haylands
Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to The Falcon pub, Ryde Academy and Ryde School with Upper Chine, among other places. The nearest railway station is Ryde St Johns Road station, roughly 0.9 miles north-east of the centre. A little further out are Sandown Castle (4.4 miles south) and Gosport War Memorial Hospital (5.3 miles north). Open spaces near Haylands include Alan Hersey Nature Reserve and Brading Down.
Aftercare tips
Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Keep canopy edges and gutters wiped down
- Diary the next grease test and clean
- Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together
- Mention new equipment or longer hours at the next test
Readings of 500 microns or more are highlighted as needing immediate spot cleaning, and we can quote to do it.
Close the access gaps found during inspection, so every part of the duct can be cleaned.
Questions from Haylands
Do you cover smaller places like Haylands?
Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Haylands is covered. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
Which fire authority looks after Haylands?
Fire safety enforcement in Haylands is handled by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Which accreditations do you hold?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.
What if parts of the system can’t be reached?
We record them on the report, with pictures where possible, and we explain what access is needed, such as extra access panels in ductwork.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, any time. If something urgent happens, like a fan failing or damage after a fire, call our 24/7 line and we’ll talk you through the next steps.
What do you do to protect the area?
With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. The work is kept contained and clean down when we finish.
How do you measure grease in a kitchen extract?
The Wet Film Thickness Test (WFTT) and Deposit Thickness Test (DTT) measure how thick the grease is at a given point. Readings are taken at set points through the system.
What does a pre-clean survey involve?
We check the layout, the grease levels and the access, so the clean goes to plan. Any access problems are flagged so they can be sorted first.
