TR19 inspection for sites in George Green

TR19 inspection in George Green

Taking on a kitchen in George Green with no cleaning records? Start with an inspection. You get readings, pictures and a clear view of what’s needed, before any cleaning is booked. Typical jobs include heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts and pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean, across pre-clean surveys, insurer audits and access surveys.

Work in a small place like George Green starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

A written report with pictures follows every visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Different parts, different methods

Vertical risers

Vertical risers take the extract up through the floors. Grease can run down and collect at the base, so the base is a key test point.

Canopy and plenum

Clean-looking filters don’t mean a clean plenum. So we measure behind the filters, not just in front.

Do you need TR19 inspection in George Green?

When a site in George Green changes owner or cleaning contractor, the records do not always follow. With no history, the current state of the extract is a guess.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Checking the result of a recent clean
  • Parts of the system left out of past cleans
  • Heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts
  • Systems that need surveying before cleaning

Bursars and site managers at schools such as Wexham Court Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

What your quote should include

  • What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed
  • Exactly which parts of the system are covered
  • What hours they’ll be on site
  • Proof of insurance

Our hiring checklist

Kitchen extracts in George Green

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 8 pubs and bars and about 5 hotels and B&Bs in George Green and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Food hygiene inspections in George Green are the job of Slough council’s environmental health team. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. George Green sits within the area of Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Windsor Castle is about 3.3 miles south-west), access may need planning. Church and community hall kitchens, near Parish Church of St Mary or anywhere around George Green, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

What a clean will not put right

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172
  • Fire safety duties beyond the extract system
  • Heavy deposits found on test, which still need cleaning

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly before you book.

George Green: your questions answered

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for George Green?

It’s Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, which covers George Green. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Can school kitchens in George Green be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. With about 6 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of George Green, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

What is TR19?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

Can you work evenings and weekends?

Yes. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote and we’ll plan the visit around them.

How much does TR19 inspection cost?

Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. For a quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.

What types of premises do you cover?

Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.

What do the grease readings need to be?

The TR19® Grease figures are a mean of 200 microns or less between cleans, and immediate spot cleaning wherever a reading hits 500 microns. Our report sets your readings against both.

How far ahead should we book?

The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. We typically quote within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

Between visits

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:

  • Look out for grease drips round the canopy edge
  • Tell us if menus or opening hours change
  • Book the next test on the date in the report
  • Send TR19 audit reports to your insurer on request

For an insurer audit, send them the report as it is, with readings, photos and any areas not accessible.

Keep filters clean and in place. Missing or damaged filters let grease straight into the plenum.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare in George Green and across Slough. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

How the visit works

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Seeing the system in pictures first means the trip to George Green can be planned properly.

  1. The visit is arranged for when the kitchen isn’t busy.
  2. The system is checked from canopy to discharge.
  3. Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
  4. Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
  5. We send a report setting out the readings, pictures and next steps.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Clear loose items from the work area
