TR19 inspection in Chidham

After a clean, post-clean verification checks the result, with new readings and photos of the cleaned areas. It gives you evidence of how the system was actually left. Typical jobs include confirming a clean reached the whole system and kitchens taken over with no cleaning records, across access surveys, post-clean checks and insurer audits.

In a village or hamlet like Chidham, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

What we’re called out for in Chidham

When a site in Chidham changes owner or cleaning contractor, the records do not always follow. With no history, the current state of the extract is a guess.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean
  • Insurance renewals needing proof of TR19 cleaning
  • Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
  • Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings

For schools such as Chidham Parochial Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

What to look for in a quote

  • How they set the interval to the next visit
  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

What happens if it’s left?

Skipping grease testing leaves the cleaning interval to guesswork. Any reading of 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning under TR19® Grease, and you can only act on that if you’ve measured it. Somewhere as small as Chidham, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are unsure, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

How the visit works

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. A few pictures of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Chidham.

  1. First we look at the system’s cleaning history, if there is one.
  2. We follow the extract from canopy to discharge.
  3. We note where access panels are and where more are needed.
  4. Grease readings are taken and photos recorded.
  5. We report back with readings and a fixed quote.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

Between visits

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Diary the next grease test and clean
  • Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Store grease readings where your insurer can see them
  • Never cook with filters missing

If any reading is 500 microns or more, the report flags it for immediate spot cleaning, and we can arrange it.

Test grease regularly instead of relying on the calendar. It spots changes in how fast grease builds.

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • How big the system is
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • The condition of the system

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

What we need to know

You do not need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:

  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site

Getting a quote does not take long. Call or email with a few details and you’ll usually have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Multi-site and managed buildings

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We’ll take a look and give you a fixed quote.

Common questions in Chidham

Who inspects food businesses in Chidham?

In Chidham, it’s Chichester council that carries out food hygiene inspections. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Chidham out of term?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. The FSA’s register shows about 2 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Chidham. Tell us your holiday dates and we will book the visit for when the site is empty.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. We always survey first, either from photos and details you send or on a site visit. Then you get a fixed quote.

What is TR19?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

What accreditations do you have?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, as well as food production and leisure sites.

Can the work be done while we are closed?

Yes. Evenings, nights and weekends are normal working hours for us, so you do not have to close during trading.

What should I send you?

Only a few details: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
